Hey all. I've been poking around here for a while looking for an answer and have been unable to find it yet. If this has already been discussed, please direct me to the thread so I don't annoy the moderators.
My question is about what the requirements are for financial situations in order to get clearance for CTN. I have no credit card debt but I owe quite a bit on school loans, which is one of the primary reasons I decided to join (good opportunity to save money and put it towards them). 93corvette was kind enough to direct me to a link referencing some of the other CT rates but didn't know about CTN. Can someone either give me the specifics or point me to where I can find them? My recruiter said it shouldn't be a problem but he also said poor color perception wouldn't keep me from going nuke... Thanks a lot! |

Requirements for all CT rates are the same regarding clearance and debt. Poor color perception may keep you out of CTN also but not positive on that.

I see...well, here's my situation. I DEPed in this summer as SK then changed to CTN a month or two later. My contract says I am to go in as CTN. I did the security phone interview with a Chief at MEPS and heard nothing else back; my recruiter says there should be no problem (being a recruiter I don't trust him).
I found the following on page 70 in the document 93Corvette pointed me to: b. Interview. When interviewing CT, IS, IT, and PRP (MT) applicants, scrutinize responses regarding financial responsibility, drug use history, and criminal record since these past activities could be targeted for potential blackmail. Applicant’s [sic] who are former members of the Peace Corps shall not be given school guarantees for the above ratings. I have a guarantee (a contract) for CTN "A" school. My question is if this can be revoked. I'm scheduled to ship out pretty soon; I don't want to get to boot and have them tell me "we have denied your clearance, how's about six years painting decks?" Is this a possible scenario (not getting clearance, not necessarily deck-painting)? That is, is it possible to be guaranteed accession to a rating but be denied later due to the decision-makers not having checked every requirement for the receiver prior to granting it? Also, would it be possible for my recruiter to check up on my status? If there is a chance I am ineligible for a clearance I will need to change to a different rating that doesn't require it before I leave. The document I refer to can be found here: http://www.navygirl.org/QA/docs/1130.8H%20VOL%20IV_Prog...ndClassification.pdf Sorry for the deluge of information - I'm just really trying to figure this out before I ship. Thanks for the help. |

Were you honest about the amount of your school debt during the interview? As long as you were honest about everything they interviewed you about and there was nothing that raised any flags you should be fine. Is there a chance that you could be denied a clearance - yes this is a possibility for any rate that requires a clearance. If you are denied for something that you were honest about then you will have the option to change rate or be separated from the military. If you are denied for something that you withheld then you could be sent to "chip paint" or whatever the Navy wants you to do. Bottom line as long as you were honest don't sweat it.

Thanks a lot. That makes me feel better. I was honest during the interview and I have nothing else on my record that could preclude me. Do you know where I could find that information in written form? I don't doubt your information but I like to be able to reference what I know (assuming it's unclassified of course). If not it's no big deal, but if you happen to know off the top of your head that'd be cool.
Again, thanks a lot. That takes a load off my mind. |
