I am currently an AE2 going thru flight engineer school. I've been thru Aircrew School, SERE, and passing all my exams easily, and have a firm grasp on study habits. But I am coming to the realization that I don't wanna live by the flight schedule, and considering dropping from the program. I don't want to fail any exams cause that would look bad.
My mind keeps drifting toward learning about network security, and have a definite interest in things related to computing. Does anyone have any advice about making the attempt at getting out of this program and crossrating into CTN? I was thinking of dropping from the program then using my SCORE to get in. I've got the ASVAB line scores, maturity, evals, PRT scores, etc...that would qualify me but just wondering about the dropping from FE school part. Please HELP!!!!!
I recently did a lateral conversion from EN2 to CTN2. It is tough. The more entrenched you are in the AE rate, the more difficult it will be to convince the AE detailer to let you go (and then the CTN detailer has to want you.) A SCORE conversion happens when you reenlist, right? Your Career Counselor should be able to get you information on whether or not that is an option for you.
I have no advice on flight engineer school, but I think failing out of it would hurt your chances for CTN, I could be wrong though. Any computer networking and security classes you can take or certificates you can earn before you apply will help immensely on the CTN side of the house approving the conversion.
I don't know how immediately you want to make a decision, but like I wrote in the other thread, as of the first of November CTN is open for E4 and below only. I know this because I have a SCORE package in currently for CTN waiting/praying for an approval. Get with your CC to get the monthly quotas for when it opens back up to E5s
