I am talking to a recruiter for direct commission into the US Nav Res from an enlisted position in the USAF Res. and I am considering an Intel/IW position. I was told these are highly competitive and he mentioned Seabees are easy to get into. I have 16 yrs enlisted in the USAF (4 AD) in Munitions and Transportation, and 7 years experience in Elect. Engineering -- five of which is with a major defense contract that requires use of my clearance.
Would you say I have a a competitive advantage to the Intel positions? Just curious about the "mold" they are looking for and I am interested in utilizing my engineering degree.
FYI. I found out about the SeaBees being mainly a construction unit, and the fact they are deployed first (for bare bases) and tend to be a rough bunch. Not too sure about that one since I have 4 kids to answer to.
I believe if you look at the Reserves Board, there are a bunch of guys waiting on the Intel Results.. 47 packets and under a dozen were going to be offered a commission. I have no doubts that IWO is similar.
so in a nutshell..yes, it is competitive. no clue as to what the latest board was looking for in terms of need.
Sorry for delayed replies. I thought I would get notified by email when there was a reply to my posts.. guess not.
Yes, I am looking at both to apply for both. I took the test Friday and I just reviewed sample questions. I was more in a hurry to get my "checks in the box". It is funny, all of my scores were right down the middle (that is to say the statistical median). However, that reduces some competition.
The Seabees do not require a test, and I may put that as my third option. My recruiter is pushing Seabees on me a bit. In fact, he wants me to go on a Navy paid trip to get a short tour of what they do.
I still think I am a better "fit" for Intel or IW.
