My recruiter is telling me stuff that doesn't jibe with what's been said here. I'd like to know the real deal so I can adequately prepare.

HE says that after boot I go to A school and that's it. He said "You don't have to worry about C school or getting a NEC until you're an E5 or so."

Are the reserves radically different than AD or what? Thanks for any light being shed on this for me.

CaptainTess,

As a Reservist, you would go to boot camp and "A" School, then return to your NOSC/Reserve Unit. I have known some who stay and complete "C" School, others who go to "C" School soon after returning to the NOSC, and some who wait awhile. In my opinon, it's easier to get it done sooner rather than later.

All Reserve IS's are required to have an NEC within the next couple of years. Going to "C" School is NOT contingent on paygrade...I know ISSAs through ISCs who have gone to "C" Schools.

Is the Reserve Component different than the Active Component? Yes and no...a few months ago, I heard about 80% of the IS community deployed (Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa, etc.) comes from the RC. There are benefits to AC and RC and a lot of opportunities either way.

Good luck!

ISC

Thanks for the reply.

As much as I would love to be in the AC I'm afraid I am too old. So since RC is my only option I am going to be the one that gets deployed more? How ironic...
