Per my Reserve Unit, all IS's must earn an NEC by 2011.
- Eligible NECs are 3910 (Imagery), 3912 (SpecOps), 3923 (Strike), and 3924 (OPINTEL). OPINTEL NEC should be available to all IS's. Strike and Imagery NEC's will require specific assignments.
- Course duration: About 14 weeks for Imagery, 7 weeks for Strike, and 5 weeks for OPINTEL.
I hope this helps with some of your questions that have been out there!! I also posted this on the Navy Reserve forum.
So only if specific assignments come up is when an IS will be asked to attend 3923 or 3912? I am leaving for RTC on 20080205 as an IS/E-3 and I know that it's in my contract to attend 'A' school in Dam Neck, but when would I attend 'C' school? Would I have my choice of which 'C' school to attend?
I am very interested in 3910 and 3923, but I bet I don't really get to decide do I
Once you return to your unit from "A" School, express your interest in attending "C" School to your chain of command, as they'll be the ones to facilitate your attendance.
As far as which school you attend, you will likely have some choice - I know, in the case of my unit, they have worked with people to get them into the school they wanted to attend. Of course, this would also depend on the needs of your reserve unit.

Unwinged,
Keep in mind a lot of what IS's do is classfied...hence, no extensive explanation of jobs.
3910/Imagery - deals with the processing and assessment of images. 3912/Spec Ops - provide intel support to special operations forces. 3924/Operational Intelligence - Of the NEC's 3924's are the most "generalists" - can be found doing briefings, analysis, etc. 3923/Strike - deal with strike warfare.
Originally posted by unwinged: Thank you soooo much!! Thats all I needed!! Do the IS reserves still get to do the IS work on their drill weekend? Or is it more of training?
Yes - I am a Reservist and typically do intel. work and some training (an hour or so) every drill weekend.
Originally posted by unwinged: did you request to go to afghanistan?
No, I did not request Afghanistan - involuntary mobilizations are common for Navy Reserve Intel folks (especially E5's and E6's) right now. I have had a very good deployment though and am one of a few who've come here vice Iraq.
any suggestions on NKO classes to take while waiting to go to bootcamp that will help me later in IS? The recruiter already had me do the mandatory military ones but he isnt really sure which other ones I should do
