I received orders to Cape May and wanted to get some opinions on the housing there. I have seen the housing website where there are a few pictures but I wanted to get some thoughts from people who have or are currently living there. Likes/Dislikes. Heads up on anything in particular. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

I lived in Cape May housing in 2002-2003. The places was pretty nice, nothing special but considering the housing market it was pretty good. It's about 3 blocks to the beach from PA ave. The housing also allows you to avoid the tourist traffic throughout the summer. Nothing better than rolling out of bed with work only 1/4 mile down the street. No need to start the car just rode my bike in.

The housing is pretty nice. I was there from 2004 - 2006 at the ANT. The ony problem was trying to get the Maintenance guys out to fix something. Other than that it was nice to be able to walk or ride my bike. Just remember in the Summertime DO NOT leave the Island.

During the Summer all the Shoebees would come down. During the week between 0900 & 1200 then during the weekends the traffic on rte 9 bridge was horrendous, but there was always the other bridge to the east that you could take, but you would still run into traffic downtown. When I was with the ANT we would dread coming back Rte 9 Bridge. You have a major Hwy coming into a two lane road. |

I have been in housing for almost 5 years. Its ok, not really nice, but ok. The community is great and its huge benifit to be able to come home for lunch every day when not u/w. The 2 bedroom units are the nices and the only ones with carpeting downstairs. The 2 bedroom units also have treamendous closet space. The main bedroom has a huge walk in closet that can be doubled as a nursey or reading room, (its that big). The problem is, the realestate is so high here and it is very hard to find something BAH will cover. Most wand up putting out of pocket. Our BAH rates are so low, because we are included with towns miles away that have a very low cost of living, we don't even get COLA. CM and Wildwoods realastate is outragious, but it is dropping. A few years ago it skyrocketed so much it couldn't go any higher, but now its been dropping and it may be worth even less in a few years when its time to resell.
Look in North Cape May and the Villas for houses, much cheaper there and only 15 minutes from the base. There are some spots in the Villas to watch out for though, but they are building that area up. good luck in whichever you choose..djc. |
