I just received orders to the District Office in Seattle. Question: Is the military housing close enough to occupy? Is it nice? How is the rental market? Recommended places to live. I am looking forward to a change, any insight would be great

There is no military housing for Seattle. And the cost of living is high. Most people live about 30 minutes out. The district office may have a good carpooling program you might want to check into.

You might want to look at living across the water in Kitsap County and taking the ferry, cheaper rent and you might get money for taking it.

There is no close miltiary housing. Living on the other side is a pain especially with all the ferry issues we have been having lately, but it is cheaper, and there is a transit program that pays for you to walk on the ferry.

If you want to rent or buy I would suggest Issaquah or Snoqualmie Ridge on I-90. There are good bus options from those places as well as carpool with other members. I-5 stinks for traffic.

I owned a house in Seatac, 12 miles and 20 minutes out on E-6 pay. I probably wouldn't have wanted to live there if I had school age children though.

I lived in Issaquah... the best place I have ever lived. Try to find a house/t-home or apt in the area called Klahanie. Its an easy commute to Seattle, great commuity and great schools...

Good luck!
