We are looking for a 3 bedroom in the Hickory High School District of Chesapeake or in the Kellam High School District of VA Beach.

Could rent or purchase, we are open for either one.

We are scheduled to be there for 3 years.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Take a look at these two homes. One is owned by a Coastie who is transferring. The other is just a regular listing. I am an active duty member planning for retirement as a licensed Realtor. I have helped other Coasties find homes and sell theirhomes.

the op asked for affordable homes in quality school district where they could feel comfortable sending their children (read their own flesh and blood) without paying for Cox/First Colonial High School district home prices.

The va bch location you listed is practically in the hood and , the traffic over there sucks too.

Why don't realtors just give folks what they ask for or at least admit that they can not give what the buyer wants.

babcockseven,
You'll find what you are looking for, there are plenty of homes over in those school districts.
The two school districts you mentioned are at the top of the charts for public schools in Tidewater.
I would recommend you try to contact another Realtor in the area and insist only on homes in those school districts. You are the boss in this transaction and it's your money at stake.

I recommend all of you to contact individuals with e-mails with your recommendations for real estate. Thanks all for your cooperation.

Realtors are not supposed to list homes on this site...period....according to the TOS... Eek

The reason they do what they do is commission, commission, commission...

Wray,

I really respect your comments and will comply to any rules associated with this site. I do of course disagree with the analogy that (ALL) Realtors are in this just for the commission. I used to list CG people homes for 5 percent but through contact with other Realtors demanding a 3 percent sales commission, I went to 5 1/2 and gave them the 3 percent just to move the CG members house. Some Realtors refused to show the house for less than 3 percent. My committment is to the client and to sell their home regardless as to whether I make less or not. A good Realtor knows that it's more important to build a good relationship than to ever worry about funds.

Have good day and thanks for your input.

Unknown Coastie,

It is quite impressive to speak from a position of anonymity and spout off about a neighborhood or the people contained within. In case you are too ignorant to understand, this is called STEERING and it is very ILLEGAL. Therefore any Realtor associated with your post may be in violation of Virginia and Federal law. Bayside Place is a newer neighborhood of 24 homes built in 2004 and you could not afford to live there if it is as you say (in the hood). Get your facts straight! As for Virginia Beach schools, all of the schools are good. They teach to same curriculum with the exception of the Academies. You can attend any academy regardless of which Beach school district you live in. Straight from VBCPS: Currently, the division has seven high school academies in operation. Among them are the Global Studies and World Languages Academy at Tallwood High School; Health Sciences Academy at Bayside High School; the International Baccalaureate Program at Princess Anne High School; the Legal Studies Academy at First Colonial High School; the Mathematics and Science Academy at Ocean Lakes High School; the Technology Academy at Landstown High School; and the Visual and Performing Arts Academy at Salem High School.

Babcockseven, talk to other Coasties and find a good Realtor. Good luck and welcome to Hampton Roads.

Closet Coastie, feel free to respond but keep your negativity to yourself. I am done with this and refuse to make myself smaller just to make you feel bigger.

Babcock7 I'm from the VA Beach area been stationed in Portsmouth several times. I owned in Ocean Lakes subdivision of VA Beach for four years early 2000's left for AL. for two years and came back last year. Needless to say prices had soared since 2003-2004 in VA Beach and Chesapeake. We decided to build a new home in Camden County NC, 18 miles from Chesapeake, 35 miles from ISC Portsmouth all highway. The schools are great in Camden and you get allot more for your money. Not many rentals in the county but there are plenty of houses for sale 3&4 bed room. Since the market took a nose dive at the end of last year prices are coming back down in VA Beach and Chesapeake. Try out one of these realty agencies web sites for some listings to check out. GSH Goodman Segar Hogan, Realtor.com, REMAX of VA Beach, William E Wood "probably the best in Tidewater and North East NC". Good luck

I am from Virginia beach, and also lived in Camden,NC. I prefer Camden for the small town, country setting(quiet and nothing to do for miles)...and Va beach for your city fun(convienence at its finest).
In NC, the housing market is lower priced for first time homebuyers and Camden schools were great when i went there. On the other hand it was very hard for new people to fit in....b/c it is soooooooo small town. Va is more diverse, and welcomes military families a lot better. I lived in VA for 16yrs. I attended Salem, and when i was there, First colonial schools were the best. FROM MY OWN perspective. Va real estate is rediculous and continues to grow, you just need to find something priced low. That way in 3yrs you can turn a profit. Have you thought about the norfolk area at all? I know they are fixing that part of town up nice, and you could probably get a pretty good deal.
There is a lot of $$ to make in real estate if you know where to look and how to play the game! I would definently work with a realtor down there! Do you have a house to sell? Good luck

Thanks for all of the info.

I know an agent in Chesapeake, so I will contact her, she works for GSH.

I would love to purchase a home, but it would have to be an EXCEPTIONAL deal for us to do it at this point and time. We took a pay hit to get into the CG and we may not be in the area for a full 3 years. Also, we are a 1 income family for a couple more years. (Our youngest son is 3 and I plan to return to work when he starts school). Things in Hampton Roads are 250-350 for a 3 bd. Who knows maybe we will find a great deal????? Smile

I just found out that there is Military Housing in the Hickory School District. Maybe we could go that route and save money for the next duty station and purchase there.

Thanks again

I live in the base housing you're talking about (at Navy Northwest Annex) and it's not too bad, they're building new units right now and things are supposed to improve quite a bit when they're finished so that might work out well for you. It's in the middle of nowhere though, be forewarned.

Thanks for the response.
The new housing??? What is the name of it and when is it going to be complete. Do you Know?
I have ask for Pecan Cresent 3 BD with a Garage...I ask for this mostly for the garage. We lived in Navy Housing at PAX River, MD that was just like Pecan and really enjoyed it there.

I am aware that it is in the middle of nowhere although I have never been to that base.

My daughter attended Hickory Middle when we lived in Chesapeake before, but we lived off of 168 exit 10

Thanks for the info

Are you assigned to Northwest because you work at that base? Or do you work on another base?
Thanks

I work on Northwest, so that probably doesn't answer any questions about your situation. As far as the new housing, it's still part of Pecan Crescent, they're just developing a new part of it. Why don't you just live on the economy down here, the BAH should be sufficient. Have you checked craigslist?
