ANT Team is located at the Boat Station near Eureka. Command has 85 housing units at two locations, Eureka and Ferndale. Eureka units about a 15-20 minute commute, Ferndale 45-50 minutes. Eureka units are slightly nicer but Ferndale is a much nicer town. Not really much in the way of apartments and homes are very expensive. Best bet is to live in housing.
We lived in Humb Bay for 3 years the first tour and 9 years the 2nd time. Its a great area...the beaches are wonderful and the weather is great.
We lived in the Eureka housing the whole time we were there. The housing is nice, with the exception of the flooring...it has no carpeting just ugly tile We had alot of throw rugs down. The houses have garages and small fenced backyards. It's pretty safe there and if you have kids the schools are good. All 3 of our kids graduated from Eureka High.

Expect to pay 50 cents a gallon more for gas (if Costco gas then it would be 30 cents) than the "national average". If you can afford to buy a house it would be better than living in the fishbowl of housing. Besides talk on the street is "Ferndale might be closing". The price of everything is higher, and the options are few!
I plan on living in Govt Housing. The BAH people really need to relook the value there. There is nothing under 1300 for rent there and BAH for married is only 1000. Housing Officer said there may be a shortage of Gov't housing this year.
Housing here WAS pretty nice with Ferndale housing open. Now they have closed the Ferndale housing displacing us from our homes and there is not enough housing in Eureka to cover all of us. Now we are stuck looking for a place to rent. As an e-6, married 2 kids and a dog it has been impossible to find housing that is not in the bad parts of the city, as well as the minimum deposit on the houses we have looked at is at least $2500 plus first and last thats between $5k and $6k that we have to come up with just to get into a rental house. On top of all of that they reduced the BAH rates by $150 for an e-6 which now makes it almost impossible to live on the economy. The worst part of it is they changed the rates for 2008 and then told us we had to move on the economy. While those that were on the economy before are grandfathered into the old bah.
Well we had the talk with the kids last night that we have to give the dog up just to get into affordable housing and that affordable housing is putting my 9 yr old and 2 yr old into the same room since we cannot afford a 3bd house here.
Oh ya and a gallon of milk costs $5 and gas is $3.80 and going up.
