Looking for suggestions on areas to start looking for homes in the $250k-$350k range, within an hour of Arlington. What I have seen so far costs much more than that. Thanks!!
Not to be the bearer of bad news, but $350K in Arlington, Fairfax ,or Alexandria is probably only going to get you a 1 bed/1 bath condo. That doesn't include community fees. Gotta love the DC housing market.
Not a popular option, but I did the geo-bachelor thing and got a furnished effiency apt (studio) for $900 a month while I was stationed there in Arlington. Everything included, cable too. It actually worked out pretty good. 10 minute drive with no interstate travel involved. It was called the "Glebe House" in Alexandria. Good luck.
Thanks, but what is MRIS? We are mostly looking for a Condo, but more interested in what areas are a recommended place to live. We do not have kids and would of course prefer a low crime area. I currently commute to work with a 30 min trip on the interstate in WA State. What is the average for the Alexandria area workers?
I live in the Govt Center area of Fairfax and have for 5 years. It's got a lot more crowded in the area, but have never had a problem with being within BAH. BAH w/deps when it involves no kids, is realy reasonable. FYI - an E-7 with dependants gets BAH based on "Average rental cost for a three-bedroom townhouse plus 36 percent of the cost difference between a townhouse and three-bedroom home." (google 'determining BAH rates'). So - that is what you get money for. If you need more - that is what your base pay is for! If you need less, enjoy the extra money.
edgykatid does a good job of not trying to market his services on here. I will tell you that he is a retired E-9, working as a realtor in this area and has the highest integrity when it comes to dealing with military folks looking for housing in this area.
The MRIS is the local multiple listing service that Realtors use.
The Kingstowne area has a lot of garden style condos with rents ranging from $1600 to $3200, bedrooms range from 2 to 4, and it will take about 10 minutes to drive to TISCOM from there.
The drive from Arlington to TISCOM takes anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes on a good day.
Back channel me through my website so I don't get moderated outta here....
