I'm currently a Chaplain Candidate in the National Guard. As a Chaplain Candidate I'm not able to serve full time. I really like being a Chaplain Candidate, but I'm unemployed outside of the NG. I have a bachelor degree in Accounting, but companies want hire people without 5 to 10 years experience. I'm completing a Master of Divinity degree online, but churches want hire single men for ministry positions. I have at least another two years before I complete my M.Div. degree in order to become a regular Chaplain. Once I'm a regular Chaplain I can put in for a transfer to go full time Army. However, I don't think I can survive on just a monthly NG check for two years. I currently have no prospects of a getting civilian job with the unemployment rate at record highs. Therefore, I've been looking into the possibility of transferring from the Chaplain Candidate program in the NG to a full time position in the Army such as a Finance Officer. Is such a transfer possible? If so, what would be the best way to go forward? Any suggestions would be appreciated! I'm still holding onto hope of finding civilian job. But I also feel I should have a plan B just in case.
