Hi,

I have been in the army since Nov'08. Enlisted as an 11c and I'm active duty. I have a 3Year-17Week contract. My 12 months mark is in the middle of November.

I know you need to be 24 months out from your ETS before you can re-enlist. Which for me is in March I believe. Or atleast that is what my ERB states. I want to go NG or Reserves or do something to get me off active duty. I hate it.

I have very little free time to do anything and I joined with the intention of taking some collage courses which I just don't have time to do as AD soldier. Some people have told me to do green to gold but I would rather not.

I would like to pretty much get the Army off my back. I don't want to leave the Army but I am done with AD cause it is just sucking the life out of me as a private.

Feel like I have no control over my decisions and when I try to do something my NCOs turn me down. My section Sgt. is very supportive of me and my fellow soldiers trying to educate ourselves but at the same times lacks the balls to stick up for us. And the more senior NCOs just turn us down cause they either don't like us or they would rather spend the time and energy on there own guys.

We have 4 sections in my platoon. I'm a 60 guy and we get the short end of the stick on everything cause we are viewed as "weak" cause we aren't on the 120s... Dunno why cause we have to ruck our stuff. But lets just say we suffer the "short end of the stick on everything".

Pretty much what I am getting at is- Can I re-enlist into the NG or Reserves and be removed from AD or do I have to finish off my AD contract before I get moved over ?

I'm getting close to going off the reservation with AD. Need to have a little bit more control over my life. Don't want to leave the Army but I would like to try and better myself before I continue on an AD life style because my life is going no place in my current position.

Thanks,

PV2 - DA

You have to complete your current contract and upon seperation from AD you may enlist into either the National Guard or Army Reserves.

Just hang in there, life gets better after you have been in for a while and have been in more than one unit. I spent 6 of my 24 years as 11C - I also hated my first unit and year in the army but then PCSed to Korea - luved it, then to Fort Lewis - luved it, then back to Korea - luved it. I hated mechanized infantry but luved being leg in korea, motorized in Lewis.

Taking orders that you don't like is just part of being in the military. Life gets better as you get promoted up the ranks

Also, when you hit your 2 year from ets mark, you could look into reenlisting for a different MOS or you could stay 11C and reenlist for another duty station.
