So I am MOS qualified 68w. I switched from the resv to active duty just over a month and a half ago. I was not offered my job as a 68w and had to select a new MOS (27D paralegal specialist) in order to get on active duty.....this 27D is not for me hahaha .
I really liked the role I played as a medic adn would love to have it as my rimary MOS again....What is likely to me if I fail out of this AIT. Since im still MOS qualified is there a likely chance I can get my job back. I'm asking on here first cause finding my plt sgt here is an extreme hassle, and I need her in order to get an appointment with rentention. Though I plan on it ASAP Any insight tips or solutions are welcome basically I wanna be a 68w I need a slot .....ANYWHERE hahahaa by the way i have 2yrs TIS and am an E-4 |

20282124 - You should be happy with that...make rank and then reclass...some of us prior service have to go 11x...
I was told before that if you fail out of any AIT, you will be sent to the infantry or food service, but most likey infantry because they always need grunts... When are you scheduled to goto AIT? |

If I were you i would see how many points you need to make e5 as a 27D and then compare them with others...I know for infantry it's less than 500.

Just to let you know, thats not true. It's a rumor thats been circulating for decades and it is just as old as the Salt Peter in the food rumor is in Basic Training. You will never actually meet someone thats been forcibly reclassed to 11 series in such a way. I'd say it would be very, very, very rare. Far more likely they discharge you with a RE code for failing AIT repeatedly. |

Update:
Well i finally spoke with my PLT SGT and basically rention isnt gonna do anything till 1 Oct. She said its best to stick it out get the points for having a secoundary MOS and then switch back when I have 24 months left. I actually started class a week or 2 ago ....i dont understan much of it, all the legal jargin and stuff .....i have to read it think about it (and sometimes write it out in my own words) I feel like im running down the freeway in the wrong direction and the cars are the information flying by me lol...I was never this lost in medical school ....but then again i loved that and was a highly motivaed IET |

I understand that, I guess when it doesn't keep our interest, then it's harder to learn...
Yea, best thing to do is stick it out, it will look better for you...it's hard to RENO right now anyway, I have been trying to RENO for a earlier ship date... |

Some of the most dangerous words uttered in the retention world and the Army in general: "I Heard" and "I was told..." Any deliberate or non-deliberate attempt to fail out of AIT (or any Army training school for that matter) is a BAD idea. You will NOT go to the infantry because they always need grunts. You will be re-assigned according to the Needs of the Army. (NOTA) Not only is this stated in your enlistment/reenlistment contract, it is also stated in AR 601-280 and countless other documents depending on the school that you go to. I believe the exception to this rule is Special Forces, you will not be reassigned for attempting to make it through selection/Q-course or whatever it is. Now, you may say, well NOTA means infantry because the Army ALWAYS needs infantry. That again is not entirely true. I have a couple of friends that failed out of the 68A AIT (not an easy MOS to obtain) and they were shown a LIST of available MOS's to reclass into, one of which was 11B. However, there several other choices that they could choose from: 68W, 88M, 25S, 79F, etc. etc. etc. Generally, these are considered "jobs that no one wants to do" but that's BS. There are plenty of people who are happy to be infantryman and fuelers. We all have a purpose and truth be told, there are plenty of infantryman who are happy to be doing what they do. Infantryman is easily among the most important jobs in the Army. our Combat Arms, Infantry, and Field Artillery guys are the heart and soul of our forces. 75% of my time spent as a retention NCO is dispelling rumors, if you don't know something, then ask. Don't say "I heard" or "I was told" it makes those "in the know" jobs more difficult. Not picking on you, just seems like a wasted post/response. Since you don't know, did your response help him any? |
