Basically support MOS's, from what I have heard the Regt has gotten tired of relying on other units for direct support and decided to get their own. They will deploy with BNT's and company size elements etc. One thing I do have a problem with from what I have read and heard is that these soldiers will go through RIP, but only be authorized to wear the maroon beret. While berets in the large scale of things really do not matter. In my opinion if you pass RIP you wear the tan beret (black for us older bat boys), I think having them pass RIP and then make them wear the maroon beret is WEAK!

We had a conversation about this on AR.com.

The Soldiers who go to RIP will get the Tan beret but the ones who came in before the RIP requirement will wear maroon.

They ran a special course for some of them supposedly and gave them Tan berets upon completion.

Should be starting a RIP requirement for them soon if it hasn't started already.

I was referring to RSC, not STB.

I confused the two.

My mistake. This is new to me.

That is good to hear about the whole beret thing, I thought it was odd that someone would pass RIP but not be awarded the Tan Beret. I was also refering to the ranger support company, I was unaware of a new ranger support BNT

My copy of the SOF Structure document shows the Ranger Regiment ending up with this structure:

RHHC
3 Ranger Battalions (four line companies each, instead of three, an RSC, and a company with mortar, sniper, recce and medical platoons)
The Ranger STB (with RRC, Signal Co, MI Co, RTD and SOD).

Is this going to work?

I was a QM officer and dealt with loads of different CSS soldiers hold lots of different MOSs. I kinda have a feeling there wont be enough enthusiasm to fill an entire battalion.

Sounds like a good idea in principle though. I occasionally had to send my soldiers to 3rd Battalion for support stuff. All in all my guys hated it. Besides having to adjust to a massively different OPTEMPO, they got dumped on pretty hard........

The upshot of this is that Regiment will be a more self-sustaining combat unit. In the past, they've had to rely on others during sustained operations.

This gives the Regiment a headquarters unit for Regimental Recon, authorizes an MI CO to support the battalions so that they haven't got to borrow MI teams from SF Groups any more, more signals guys to set up Regimental and Battalion TOCs and FOBs... sounds good to me.

My only fear (may it be unfounded) is that by expanding the Regiment to include an STB, that it becomes just another light infantry brigade combat team. I think the only (and most important) thing that will keep that from happening is the esprit de corps and strong self-identity of the unit.

Whew, for a second there I thought my husband was going to be wearing a maroon beret after RIP and I'm sorry if it sounds stupid but that would really piss me off.

does anyone know if there will be more engineers assigned to the Ranger Batts with this new addition. I have wanted to go Engineer and I would also like to go to the ranger regiment, But I had heard that there was only like one or two engineer officers in the ranger regiment. I wonder if there will be more now?

Man I hope not, but knowing our current climate I can see it happening.

There is no way they are going to accept women, you aren't a Ranger unless you do RIP and women are NOT allowed! (of course I'm going to look like an idiot if I'm wrong... but if I'm wrong that is just craziness!)

Unless...they run it like the SF Support Companies, etc, where you have female soldiers attached to the Special Forces, wearing the patch, etc, and working in admin, QM, OR, TC roles.
