A little backstory is necessary here:
I joined the USAR in December, went to OSUT and tore ligaments in my ankle. Not a completely tragic injury, but would have been better had they caught the tears earlier. I still drove on and completed everything that would not get me an Article 15 for breaking profile. During the AIT portion I was placed on a permenant profile(112111 PULHES). This effectively eliminated my run at SF.

The original plan was to go to OSUT and then release to Active Duty after a few months unless I hated the miltary lifestyle. My company commander was supportive and up until I left for OSUT it only took his signature. Then the regulations changed requiring a Brig. Gen. signature. So....now my paperwork is in for Active...and this could take a minute.

There has been good news since. My ankle has healed better than expected and the doctor has told me that with a little rehab he will pull me off of profile. I am already running and doing everything I can. It still gets sore, but nothing that a couple ibuprofen can cure.

Since we are currently waiting on my paperwork to come back(hopefully approved), I am trying to prevent spinning my wheels and volunteering for every detail that my unit will allow. They have suggested that I break away for a few weeks and go get MOSQ in 92Y, 92A, 68W or 74D. When I discussed this with a confidant of mine....he recomended that I do so and take the following action:
-go get MOSQ in one of the above MOS's
-when I get the ability to go active, work with MEPS to get a duty station where there is a SF Group
-Call the SGM of the group and ask to go to a support company or even a ODB(if supply or chem) before I even report to post so they could potentially pull me
-Once I am back to 100% in shape and ready...apply to go to SFAS
-in the meantime, I will be gaining experience in the Spec Ops and hopefully able to get more insight into SF which may help me make it through SFAS and SFQC(if I am selected)

Does this make sense? Is all of this possible?

I would not be doing it just for the sake of serving there until SFAS....I feel that if I am going to be supply or chemical, I want to do it in a unique environment. I may really end up liking this side of it and choosing to continue in supply or chemical versus pursuing SFAS. I just know that for me to be the best that I can be, I need to be around the best to learn from them.

well I can give you a bit of encouraging insight into ligament tears in the ankle. I was working hard to shave a couple of minutes off my run when in the ARNG, and rolled my ankle on a rock hidden under some long grass. One ligament completely torn, one half way )MRI results). I forget which ligaments, but my ankle looked really bad and half my foot was purple etc. That was a couple of years ago. For the first couple of months after healing, it would feel like I was running on a flat tire for the first mile or so. That gradually went away, and now I run the Marine Corps. marathon every year and I can hardly even remember which ankle was the one I rolled.
So I can't imagine them not giving you the all clear. When I did it, they asked if I wanted a profile and I politely declined. everything comes back to haunt you it seems.

It was either take the profile or accept a discharge thanks to a very unmotivated physical therapist. I was not going to let anyone kick me out, but his opinion was that if you got hurt worse than a bandaid, you had no place in the Army. Fortunately the doctors disagreed. Now, the only thing I am kicking myself about is going Reserve.

You can inquire within, they are very approachable and had a booth at the Ft. Campbell Week of Eagles display:

I'm over the age but they had some neat toys on display. Not sure if they really use what was on display but it looked neat.
