There is a guy who I met recently through a friend who works as a personal trainer. He claims to have been in the "special forces" while he was in the army. He seems to know the lingo but I think he was likely in the army but never was in the special forces. I don't really have very many chances to talk to this guy so I was wondering if someone here would be able to check records or something to see if he was ever in the service and if he was in special forces. I have his name and the year he enlisted but I am not sure if its ok with the mods to post his name and info or if i should just email it to people.

Some things I found interesting. He claims he enlisted in the army in 2002 and got out in 2006. I think he also mentioned something about maybe applying or attending ranger school but didn't go through it or didn't finish it. He just doesn't seem like the SF type. Thanks for the help on this!

Just some more information to explain why I think this guy is full of BS. He claims to be 26 but says he graduated in 1998 from high school(meaning he graduated at 16???) and that he played soccer for USC. He also claims he can run a 4.1 sec 40m. It all smells funny

I also have a link to his profile on his website. MODS, please remove if I shouldn't post this. I figure it is ok because it is already on the open internet.

Removed.

Email the link please via someones profile if someone offers to help you. I just don't want someone to Email him and have him come on here arguing.

I clicked on the Buddy Finder and used his name to see if there were any Pentagon Records matching his name with a Special Forces MOS and there are none (Jonathan Rios). I know he would be up there listed unless he was NG or Reserves, sometimes Reserves do not all show up. Active Army he should be up there.

Since his profile says Active Army then I'd lean towards he is not being honest with you. Cool

Also, what is the SF type? Big Grin

He could have been an admin clerk in an SF unit. Not everyone assigned is tabbed.

I was a leg in an airborne unit, that doesn't make me airborne, I still wore the maroon beret. It's an organizationa item.

Also, what is the SF type?

Thanks for removing that link. I forgot that the link had his email on it. He says he got out of the service in 2006 so that might not make him show up if he is in the reserves. I may see him at a friends house sometime this week so I'll try to drop some of those questions into the conversation.

What I meant by "not the special forces type" is that he didn't come off as a military guy. I can't really explain it but the vibe I got off him made me very suspect of his special forces claims. He also mentioned that he had been special forces to a friend of mine who was with me that night about 3 minutes after meeting us. From what I understand, most special forces don't go telling everyone they meet about how they were in the special forces with no prompting at all from the person they were talking to.

Other things that lead me to believe he is lying were mentioned in the conversation I had with him. As I mentioned in the previous posts, he claims to be able to run a 4.1 second 40 meter dash. The fastest anyone in the NFL has ever run that is Michael Bennett who ran it in 4.13 sec once. Randy Moss runs it in 4.25 sec. There is no way this guy runs anything close to a 4.1.

Just ask him what group he was in, his MOS. Simple easy to answer stuff. What class # he graduated out of. enlisted in 02 and out in 06 would be the first indicator to me to throw the B.S flag. If all the other info you present is what he claims....well if it looks like **** and smells like ****.....

Invariably, when out of nowhere someone jams a bit of self aggrandizing personal info in a conversation like that they are lying. It's not that having been SF is "covert", just not related to the conversation any more than what High School you graduated from.

I have to tell you that I can't make sense of any of the posts you made in the Army Forums today. You made three nonsensical posts in Hot Topics previously and were asked by the Mod to read the TOS.

Soooo, nice meeting you, have a nice suspension.

This is a little off topic, but the Buddy Finder isn't very accurate. I can put in my own name and I show up as an AF E-4 (which I was 9 years ago). It doesn't have anything about me in the Army.

Never had it fail for Regular Army for whenever I use it. I guess there is always a first time. I've seen it fail for NG and USAR though.

Yeah, these people pop up all over the place on this website. Frown

We had one guy on here about 8 months before that could not write a post without at least writing out 5-6 video game sound effects within the text. Those posts were among the most irritating to read through.

Run his name through AKO White pages. It will show his current unit and rank.

Krautcop I dont know if that is always accurate. I seen an article a couple months ago where some soldiers were complaining most of their names didn't show up in AKO. So I assumed some reporter was just talking to posers, but there were actual video from Iraq with these soldiers. I do find it odd that an NCO in the regular army wouldnt have an ako account, I am in the NG and I am pretty sure my whole brigade is 100% on AKO hell with all the required training we have to do it would be impossible not have it.
