I am currently a junior in highschool and am thinking about getting my GED because we have moved a lot and my highschool credits have gotten all screwed up and i may have to repeat another year of highschool after my senior year. My question is will they accept you for SFAS if you only have a GED? I ask this question to because I have gotten a lot of very mixed answers from about 6 different recruiters and literally half have said that having a GED will not affect my chances of getting accepted to selection and the other half have said I need my diploma no questons asked. If their is anybody who defenently know the answer to this question it would be very greatly appreciated.

Yes of course they will. As long as you have a GT score of 110 or higher to go along with it.

That answeer is NO.

You have to be a high school grad equivalent (not just a GED; there is a difference according to AR 601-210) in order to enlist for 18X off the street.

You are going to need some college along with that GED, unless you join first and then go to SFAS after a year or two.

I stand corrected. I keep thinking of how it was when I joined the Army so many years ago. I wish everyone good will and good day.

Believe it or not this is actually one of the jobs where you do not need a 110. Your GT score must be a 100 to apply.

Given your age I might suggest the best way to accomplish your goals would be to enlist in a good feeder MOS for SF (e.g. 11B, 68W, 21B, etc...) and do a tour and/or deployment before volunteering for SFAS. You'll gain a whole lot of real world and real Army experience in that two years and bring a lot more to the table at selection. You will be able to skip past a lot of the 18X pre-phase "gut checks" and solve your whole GED problem.

I do not plan on going in through the 18x program because I am only 16 right now and you have to 20 years old to do 18x and it would be very silly to get out of highschool early and not enlist untill Im 20. I plan on enlisting and then later on if Im still interested going out for Special Forces. I ask this question because I dont want to get screwed if I do decide to go out for SFAS and then they reject me because I only have a GED.

Well I could be wrong but I think the diploma requirement is only for 18X so you should be OK as someone already in service (of course you want to get that in writing before enlisting). You also may be able to take classes while in service and "upgrade" the GED to a full on diloma?
