hey!

I'm thinking about joining the Michigan National Guard as a 25U and then trying to move into Special Forces. I'm just wondering which 25 series MOS will have a close relation to the MOS 18E.

Just my random thoughts:

I guess you have decided not to go directly into NG SF via the REP-63 route?

Honestly it's not really that much of a benifit to have a commo MOS prior to 18E. If/when you go to SWC they will teach you there everything you need to know about SF comms.

What they won't have is time to teach you is basic infantry skills. That's why all REP-63/18X go 11B first. Unless you are locked into the 25U route you might want to consider "rounding out" your experience base with a combat arms MOS.

Good luck.

By "rounding out" with a combat arms MOS do you think I would end up going to an Infantry unit for drill instead of a Signal unit? I do have a friend that is deployed to Iraq now who is a 19D. Would it help to learn what I can from him when he gets back? Would it also help to pick up a Field Manual for anything Infantry?

This is true,

I was MOS trained as an 05B and then in phase 2 learned more about the MOS 05B (This was before 18 series) than the Army taught me, Except for the morse code.

If you want to go SF just give it your all.

Signal has changed so that there really is no comparison between the MOS's.

Uh, yeah. Whatever unit you enlist in is the unit you will be drilling with. No harm enlisting as a 25U - if that's an MOS you want. Just don't do it because you think it will help with 18E.
