I'd like to hear from people in or who have been in either civil affairs or the 160th SOAR.
I've been trying to decide what I want to do in the Army; I'd eventually like to go SF but I just feel I'd like more experience first. But I've been told SF training is all the experience I'll need.
Right now I'm debating about trying to go civil affairs or 160th SOAR, but I don't really know a whole lot about either.
I'm a medic so I would assume I'd either be doing humanitarian missions in CA or flight medicine in the 160th, but as for what ones acually does in those role I'm not sure..
So anyone who has been in either or both of these roles advice is greatly appreciated. I'm just trying to get and idea of which I would enjoy more..

Training experience never is the same a real world experience. As a potential 18D you might gain a lot from actually using those skills prior to going SF.

You will use your medical skills more regularly in the CA role. As an air medic you will mostly be in the "in case of emergency break glass" mode.
Just my $.02

You can get an idea of what the CA mission is like by reviewing a few unit webpages. The 411th CA BN out of Danbury CT has a decent one, you may try that to see if it can help answer your questions.
I don't know much about CA, but the 160th is a great unit, I was with them as an aircraft electrician, but one of my buddies was a medic, and he loved it, you won't do just flight medicine either. Have fun at green platoon if you do go 160th
Go RIP dude. CA, 160th, RGR medics all go through the same medic school, but rgrs get to be shooters too. Don't confuse being a SOAR medic with being a typical flight medic, though. Those dudes do a hell of a lot more than just "emergency break glass."
Apply for the 160th Soar. You will be utilized as a medic both on the ground and in the air as a flight medic, plus you airborne and flight medic status also. Without getting into any more specific than that, my years as a 160th medic were very good for and to me and aspired me to go to RN school and now I am working on my masters to be a Nurse Practitioner. ( less than a year to go). A fellow medic of mine when through the IPAP program and is stuck somewhere in the 82nd now. It does give you an opp to for experience you will not get anywhere else...
You go to any spec ops unit your duty station is where spec ops is training and deployed. Youll be on jump status and do all types of things that the average medic probably will never dream of. Might want to discuss this with your girl youll be gone alot.
Isnt there a way to get stationed at the same post, but that requires being married I think. Ive been away from my girl (civilian) for 6 months and it seems like forever. Its like Im being forced to either get married or leave her. Possible 15 month deployment after IET and korea isnt a pleasant thought for us.
The army has the Army Couples program, they try to station both of you at least near each other if not on the same post. Don't really know much about it other than that.
We've talked about getting married and well Seen to many divorces ect. since I've been in and I don't feel like going through that.
So just going to give it some time and see if it works, kinda like now shes kinda PO'd at me for something.
Oh well we went our separate ways after ait (both medics, met during ait) and got back together so not too worried about it. So I'm just going to go for what I wanna do in life and hopefully things all work out...
