I'm going to re-enlist for CA and I have a whole bucket load of questions for someone who has spent some time in the CA world. Let me know if your willing to answer some. The first one is... I'm currently in Korea, on orders to Fort Lewis and after 6 months or so I'll probably deploy, should I wait and do my deployment and re-enlist while i'm deployed or just do it after I get to Lewis?
Rocket, I know this post is a little old but this is the first time I saw it. You can NOT re-enlist for Civil Affairs. You need to submit a packet to USASOC for review and whether or not they will accept you. Have you taken a DLAB test yet? Have you been to Airborne school? There are quite a few prerequisites for reclassing into the CA/PSYOP world. I'm in the PSYOP pipeline right now and we do everything together with the CA guys except for the MOS portion. We do language, and culex together.
Once you have submitted your packet, and are accepted, you can then extend your contract under the BEAR program. Basically you have to extend your contract to cover your time in school + 2 years. When you finish school you will have 90 days to reenlist and that is when you will receive your bonus. You have to finish everything before you get any money. So doing it while deployed is not going to get you any extra money seeing as how you'll be stateside when you actually reenlist.
Get your packet together. If you get accepted you can probably get orders to PCS to Bragg before you have to PCS to Lewis.
