I'm 35, scored a 91 on my ASVAB, no medical/physical issues and from my research (including here) 37f is what I want to do. Question is regarding secret clearance, I have two misdemeanors, one is discharging a firearm too close to public road and one discharging within city limits (on 4th of July) in 1995, thats it, just a simple fine/community service. I was 22 yrs old and have no other record before or since- will this affect a 'secret' clearance?
Also I've read about frequent deployments which I am fine with but are these short frequent deployments, as in several a year or long deployments? What excites me most is some of the things I've read about the small tactical units this mos seems to work in, can anyone add to this, as in day to day jobs description and how it interacts with the spec ops? Does airborne come before or after the language school in this mos? Anything else anyone might add will be greatly appreciated!

I'm no security expert but I would imagine that minor of an offense and that long ago shouldn't keep you from a Secret clearance.

That's dangerously close to operational information but you should be prepared to do at least the standard 12 months "boots on the ground" like everyone else.

Things may have changed but in my experience Airborne School came after language.
Thanks for the reply. I haven't seen any posts where a former or current 37f disliked their job, so I'm excited. Like I said, anything anyone wants to add is welcomed, beyond what direct questions I had, I'm sure you remember what it was like going in somewhat blind about what your job would entail.
I had a similar firearms misdemeanor that happened when I was 15, possession of a firearm by a minor (hunting without an adult). I got a Top Secret with no problem. You should be fine.
P.S. What WILL affect your clearance is not telling the truth during the process. Be honest and up front about your record. Hiding or minimizing can hurt you worse than the actual event.
Just got back from recruiter, they called meps and someone there told them no chance on 37f with a misdemeanor, the 37f job description reads 'no offences other than minor traffic violations', they say I could get a secret clearance but most of the intel jobs are not going to allow a misdemeanor, in fact most of them require top secret, that much I did read on the job lists. I feel screwed, 13f is the only thing that appeals to me now, they want to send me up tomorrow. He also told me that you can't request first duty station anymore but I saw it appear as one of the options when he went to scan for job openings and preferences! Anybody know about this?
I'm doing the same MOS and I'm currently in DEPs (delayed enlistment process) because I had to finish up my final year at college.
However, I also had a minor misdemeanor (drunk and disorderly) that I received last year. It didn't present any problems for actual enlistment for me, for 37F or a translator MOS that I was looking at. This was back in November 07 so perhaps they changed the requirements but I'm not sure. I was able to sign the contract guaranteeing the MOS, but I'm not completely sure they're just waiting to screw me out of it and put me somewhere else.
What the misdemeanor did affect was the secret security clearance process; a contractor from the DoD had to interview me on campus (the interview was completely voluntary and technically not necessary) about the event. I've researched it pretty thoroughly and it seems extremely unlikely that a single misdemeanor will keep anyone from getting a secret clearance. There are many people who have had an extensive history of drug or alcohol abuse and even more significant offenses that have received clearances (some through an appeal process).
