I thought I would start this thread and see how it goes. It is only for the 18x / Option 40 programs.
After a while the questions get dropped off the forum or newbies are too lazy to search and then we have a recycle of the same questions. This way it would be easier for a recruit to see if the question was already asked. To keep this from becoming a battle zone, BTDT's please don't flame here. For the recruits, this not for those questions such as: Whose better SF or Rangers? How do I become Special Forces? Are Rangers and SF the same? Those are for "Mr. Google" Thanks [This message was edited by snake021 on Tuesday, 02 March 2004 at 16:20.] [This message was edited by snake021 on Tuesday, 02 March 2004 at 16:21.] |

First I'll state, I have searched, and *found* threads on this question already. The question being, does anyone have definitive information on the training pipeline for SFAS.
I ask this only because the threads I have found on varrying boards, sites, and hosts do just that; varry. Most of the same general idea, but I havn't reall found any that completely match up. Also I've seen differn't people post differn't 18x contract training. Just curious the order that training will take place in. My contract has 16 weeks PREREQ MOS(11b) at benning, 7 weeks PREREQ at benning, 4 weeks PREREQ at bragg, and 4 weeks OSUT training at benning. Any insight from the BTDT's? Thanks Michael |

Not sure what you mean by pipeline for SFAS.
You mean what it takes to get ready for it or the schedule during it? If it's the latter, you will find very little. |

He's talking about his contract. I have the same thing in mine. I'm supposed to go to:
OSUT @ Benning 16 weeks PREREQ @ Benning 7 weeks PREREQ @ BRAGG 4 weeks TRAINING CYCLE @ BENNING 3 weeks I think Mikey, like me, is trying to figure out what this means. I've heard its OSUT-ABN-SOPC-SFAS, but this contract confuses me. Perhaps you or someone could shed some light on our actual pipeline as per out contracts. |

BNCOC is Basic Non-Commissioned Officers Course.
I read what it says on the goarmy website "This course is given to Sergeants wishing to be promoted to Staff Sergeant". So i did a search.. Search Results: for "BNCOC" (0 matches) then another.. Search Results: for "Non-Commissioned Officers Course" (0 matches) then a bunch of diffrent types of combos... So my question is, since this is part of the SF pipeline according to goarmy.com, do I have to wait till im a Sergeant to continue the pipeline? Or if I make it that far I get promoted to Sergeant? Because before BNCOC is PLDC. Im guessing the search engine is not working correctly for me. |

According to my information we get credit for PLDC after SFAS and credit for BNCOC after completion of the Q course. Its my understanding that we dont actually attend these courses.
https://www-perscom.army.mil/epsf/18XProgram.htm I believe we get promoted to e-5 if or when we are assigned to an ODA "In addition, upon graduation he will be awarded CMF 18 MOS of 18B or 18C and promoted to the rank of sergeant E-5." |

Thats probobly the best piece of information/advice i've gotten about my contract so far "dont try to make sense of it"
Everyone else just tells me various random things that dont match and occasionally dont make any sense at all. Thanks for the straight up answer Aaron oh yea - when you go back in will you have to go through the Q course again since youve been out so long? |

Whoops!
I read " I applied from active duty and I've been out since '96 and there wasn't SOPC then, so I'm not hip on the 18x details." a little too fast and thought you were applying to go BACK on active duty.. My mistake.. As far as what you told me about not knowing.. thats the only honest answer ive gotten so far.. its refreshing. I've asked many people at meps and my recruiting station about the details of my contract, but instead of telling me they dont know, I get various made up answers. I'm not gonna worry about the details.. When its time to go somewhere, I immagine i'll be told where that somewhere actually is. regards, Aaron |

I don't usually post here (I lurk instead) but seeing another 18X in DEP with the same question I had I figured I would pass on to you what I have found out concerning the issue.
I too have a messed up schedule in my contract (I ship in 2 months), and got the same well-intentioned misinformation from my recruiters (they said the last part at Benning was RIP...for the 18X contract ahah). So I asked the BTDT's at SOCNET and ProfessionalSoldiers.com and they said the exact same thing as Snake021...don't worry about it, as long as 18X is in the contract they will get us where we need to go. It looks like most all of us 18X's have the same inconsistencies in our contracts. The Reaper over at ProfessionalSoldiers said quote: |

Is Special Forces in National Guard only for specific states? I live in Washington state and did some searching to look and didnt find any information.

Actually I found it..
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/agency/army/1-19sfg.htm So.. Since there is a SF group in WA state, and I live in WA state, does that mean if I do make it through the training and testing/qualifications, would I be put into the 19th SF group? Sorry if this question is dumb, for some reason i cant search for ANYTHING on these boards, not even posts by me. |
