That would make too much sense.

Heck, aren't they moving 7th SFG(A) out of Bragg and down to Egland AFB just to be "closer" to the AOR? Like that little bit is really going to matter...

After reading the campbell site I was unable to find (or just to blind) out what are the minimum requirements to be assigned to the 160th. Can a person be assigned right out of flight school or do you have to have a minimum hour requirement?
Watching them on the FLIR during refueling ops I must say I am very impressed, even with trainees at hitting the hose.

From my understanding you can not be asssigned out of flight school. There is a selection critera and a ride along test.

Ranger1stBat your right about the selection test involving flights, academics, and pt. But you can be selected from flight school directly for both LT and WO.

Interesting I always thought that you had to have a certain number of hours and just figured that you would need to have at least one tour somewhere.

Kind of still true, you won't get thrown into a flight position right away. Also a lot of them are prior SF community, the one I went to flight school with was a CPT in 75th who became a warrant. He knew the community and that had a lot to do with his selection. Also he was very smart and I heard a good pilot. That always helps. It isn't the norm, but it is possible.

No offense taken, I am not looking to join up if that was what you were thinking. I am an Talon crew dog and a while back was running up and down a track helping guys get qualified and was curious how they got selected to be in the unit.

I heard that 4th Battalion is going to Afghanistan next month for a short tour. Not sure how deployments work in USASOC but I have family here in the 160th at Ft. Lewis.

Thanks for the reply, I am just doing my research. I am trying to figure out if its a unit you can apply for or they come to you if your marks attract attention. I have read a lot about the unit and its definately what I am looking for in the Army. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do in Basic or AIT that would help? thanks

I was just wondering if anyone has info if there are 15U(Chinook crew)spots open with the 160th or is it an MOS that stays full. Anything else that would help with my app. Going to basic shortly, just trying to get ahead. THanks

do a google search for SOAR and then click on the recruiting tab.

Then click 'enlisted' and follow the directions. (for the 15U guy)

occifers, click 'officers' tab. Wink
