Greetings all!

My questions are endless. I am very curious about all the things listed on the discussion board, but I will try to be brief.

I am enlisted in the Air Force, and I already have my bachelor's degree. My plan is to apply to Army OCS as soon as posible, which won't be that far out. I want to go infantry officer, then rangers, then SF or Delta. Am I asking to much? Is it extremely difficult to get into the rangers as an officer? Is it better to just serve time in a regular infantry unit and apply to SF when I am cpt or 1LT promotable? I figure a ranger bn is a good resume builder. I know all infantry officers must go through ranger school, but is getting in to a ranger bn extremely competitive?

More questions, but I will start with that. Thanks. Thank you all for your faithful service as well. God Bless.

Have you been to armyocs.com? If not go there are do some reading, it will educate you on the branching procedures for OCS. There is no guarantee you will even get Infantry.

Other than that I don't think the folks here will take to kindly to you thinking about wanting into the Regiment as a resume builder, or your aspirations for Delta.

You have a very long time to even be thinking about SF, you need to be concentrating on the 50 meter targets.

Good luck on your OCS hopes, I made the swith from AF TSgt to Army LT and it was a good move. You will have a long time to think about what you want to do, I hit my three years from OCS graduation in about a month and I am now waiting for the results of the ARSOF board (for Civil Affairs not SF).

Thanks for the response.

Yeah, I am aware of the branching process at OCS. I know branches aren't guaranteed. Have been to that website as well.

Sorry to everybody, didn't mean to be offensive or presumptuous. Its been a dream of mine for a while to get into SF, so I like to think about it. An explanation on the "resume builder" comment: I would love to be a ranger, period. No disrespect to them at all!! I am just under the impression that SF takes a lot of guys from the rangers. I would love to have as much experience as possible, to include the rangers. My hats off to all of you who have been through it all, whether rangers or SF or even Delta. God Bless you!!

My 50 meter target is most definitely infantry officer.

I know Ranger school is really tough, but, out of curiosity, what, if anything, can be fun?

There are far fewer slots for LTs in the RGR RGT (roughly, 3 BNs x 4 COs x 5 LTs = 60) than for SF CPTs (roughly, 5 Groups x 4 BNs x 3 COs x 6 teams = 360). However, the recruiting pool is smaller, too, since only IN officers can apply.

Sometimes, good guys that could succeed in the RGRs don't get to go, because of timing of deployments and promotions.

Remember, RGRs and SF are very different- if you get hired by the RGRs, you remain an infantry officer and can do a tour with the RGRs, return to the regular army and may or may not return to the RGRs again. If you go SF, you become an SF officer, and remain their for the rest of your career.

Worry about OCS, OBC and doing a good job in your unit. Apply for the RGRs when the time comes (based on your chain of command's recommendations). If you are set on SF, apply when the time comes. You can't be hurt by applying.

Numbers, its good to see you understand you have no guarantee as to branch. Infantry branch slots are very competitive so you must excel to get one. I wouldn't go so far as to state there are no non-Infantry LT slots in Regiment. But if they exist, they are damned few.

But there is an up side as to your aspirations. There is no branch requirement to branch transfer to SF. I personally know of a Quartermaster Corps and Adjutant General Corps officer who got accepted into SF training (the supply guy made it through). If you don't get Infantry there is still hope of going SF when the time is right.

As to Delta...I'm not going to touch that!
