As a non-BTDT I'd say it could be because the question has been answered previously in these forums. It may also be that your s/n references being a hippie.

I frequently roll my eyes when amused - even when I am my only audience...too much time in my youth laying prone looking through a Leatherwood scope.
Actually Roger, I roll my left eye because: 1) You have alot on your plate. Girl, BCT, girl, jump school, girl, SFAS, girl, SFQC, girl...ect. I admire your energy. There may come a time when you will need to focus on one or the other. SF is famous for being a crucible for even healthy, mature relationships - because most fail (not all, but most). I roll my right eye because: 2) There is a section at the top of the USASOC Forums list of discussion topics with 3 attention-getting notices in BOLD TYPE and with exclamation points. One is !READ FIRST!, and folks visiting are encouraged to acknowledge that they have. Next is !Discussion Forum Basics wherein folks cannot reply, but are encouraged to at least read. Last is !Post all 18x/Option40 questions here! I see no post by you acknowledging the first, no way of knowing you read the second, and the absence of this post by you in the third tells me a great deal. Personally, I think that these three would be an excellent Pre- Pre- Pre- SFAS screening tool as a test of one's ability to read, follow directions and pay attention to detail - all of which are qualities a SF Trooper or Ranger should pocess in abundance. And that sir, is why I roll my eyes. P.S. I really do like your handle. |

Young man, no need to apologize, we obviously didn't explain it well enough in the introductory topics of USASOC...I can assure you I was not in the least bit pi$$ed off and there is no inherent desire to discourage you or hurt your feelings...that is someone else's job.
I can promise you that once you check in to Selection, there are plenty of Cadre NCOs at SWTG who will be pleased to measure the thickness of your hide when Suck and Gut checks come knocking. On a lighter note, if you're not willing to go through 54 pages to find an answer to something which is apparently important to you, how will you do on navigation problems when you have to retrace your moves to find out where you went wrong, and what to do to correct? You want to be a Special Forces soldier? You want that Green Beret? Don't quit. Not ever. Don't let anyone discourage you...ever. Not even the old BTDTs like me in these stupid forums. That should be the stock answer to every question by aspiring snake-eaters in these peanut galleries - "NEVER QUIT!...EVER" |

Well you're not going to get time off in OSUT. Airborne school yes you will. SOPC and SFAS you definitely will not get time off. And if you make it through SFAS and get selected, the Q course is a PCS move so yes your wife to be, if you're married by then will be able to move there on the Army's dime.
Marrying your girlfriend before you leave for basic is whole other topic. LOL |

I can't even imagine what Drill Sergeants think when some of these people show up. It must be the difference from years ago having to show your face and speak to someone in person, verses now living behind the computer screen. What happens on the battlefield of the future when your batteries die...maybe they will get beamed up for a recharge.

Go back to your first posting, look just above your name. See the FIND button? You've supposedly read the Discussion Forums Basics. You don't want to search through 54 pages. But you think the people here should have to answer the same question 10,000 times? All of this has been asked and answered, in other postings. BTW, the man you're being a smartazz to? He's a SF Combat Veteran. That's a BTDT, Been There Done That. Show the man some respect. Personally, I think you need to apologize to him. |

hippieheado25: you asked about marriage and when you would be able to have your wife (by then) accompany you to the Fattleburg area to be with and comfort you during your training, or words to that effect......correct? All women are made up differently and as a snowflake, there are no two alike. There are two or more who share the same qualities and these are the ones who do make the grade, as you will have too. Now then, if I may, you need to turn around take a deep breath, sit down and listen (read). At 75, I am probably the most senior BTDT aboard, probable the entire Mil.com Forums, even. I attempt to get along with everyone I communicate with, and do my utmost to offer pearls of wisdom and tidbits of history based on experience. I have threads in pretty much a wide range of military forums, to include Women in the Military and Why is Rape taken so lightly in the Military. I even "drink a cup of coffee" with an early morning coffee clutch. Even though someone does throw a barb at you on occasion. Before you start taking offense and throw harpoons in return, take the time to read his or her profile. You may discover it is much more prudent then taking the time to tell him or her they are a trouble maker. As for the BTDT title, you will never know where they have been nor what they have done, unless they think you might be worth saving, so stay seated for a little bit, and pay attention. I started my career in Korea and finished it shortly after Vietnam. During that time I spent 13 years with SF, 7 of which I taught various subjects; Communications, Psychological Warfare, Survival, and a couple phases of Unconventional Warfare. In the beginning; if it was a conductive metallic substance, I could make an antenna of it, as radio communications was my very early expertise. Military Intelligence and the rest came later. I have participated in four combat zones, one of them twice. In Vietnam I was a the One Zero of New Jersey, the original one actually, in 1967, as a 35 year old Master Sergeant. In 1969 I was the HF BN SGM, the FOB Opns Sgt, and the FOB Security Company First Sergeant. All between 1967 and 1969. And that my young friend is a Tiger 100. The class of '60 had a Tiger Code, derived from incidents over the past year or so. The codes run from 100 to 123, BTW. As for the physical change you dearly need to change, it is the thickness oy your skin. I would suspect it is far too thin to be thinking you can outwit any one of the BTDT, whom I know. There is a very old saying, which fits rather well here; "Before putting mouth, (fingers) in action make sure your brain (senses) is in gear." Hopefully, this has enlightened you and I guess you can get up now and go about your business. Ringo Sends with a Tiger 101, 103, 104, 109, 110, 118, & 119......... Take care, stay safe, keep smiling, happy hunting, and may the good Lord keep a watchful eye over you at all times............Jim Ringland Then I heard the Lord saying; :/Whom shall I send, who, will go for us?" and said I, "Here, am I, send me."....Isaiah 6:8-6:13........Ringo LORD: Keep your arm around my shoulder and your hand over my mouth AMEN!! unkn. www.sfac82.org/ |
