But, I am pretty stoked that I was picked up on the CSM list yesterday. Not bad for a guy who had 2 field grade article 15's in 1989 and went from an E-5P to an E-2 in 4 months. Now lets just hope that I go to a unit that where I can make a difference.

Ken,

Congratulations Brother...outstanding!

Applause Beer Applause Eek

Have a fine airborne day my friend -

May the wind blow gently on your face,
May the sun be at your back,
May your canopy softly fill with air,
May the ground rise slowly up to greet you,
May your head never reside in your fourth point of contact...

....and may the intel about a soft LZ be true

Shardik I think we discussed my mistakes, unfotrunately the P did not do a thing for me as I was still an E-5. The best part about it was my Rgr Bn Cmdr gave me my field grade the day before I left for selection; great motivation. In classic idiot orm I made the same mistake 3 months later.

Erich I did not even think about the reserved parking, I may have to go to the PX to take a nap in my car. Although I will get a suite at Army Lodging now.

Transient Quarters upgrade as well!

The PX, ha-ha-ha, you should see their HQ here in Dallas, cash bar on the 5th floor with a view. Parking lot plastered with all sorts of RESERVED FOR signs. Security wearing blue AF DS "Smokey the Bear Hats".....it was hard not to snicker on the tour.

Police call, haircuts, mustache trims; there's a great legacy to follow.

You have the opportunity to be another Preacher Hodge.

Normally you'd have to kiss some serious butt for CSM, but your two article 15's,and handle suggest you have MORE than earned it. CONGRATS, and thanks for all you do!!!!!!!!!!!!

Duster and MPLCS I am sure you are right I was only promoted because DA felt sorry for me. Or maybe since you guys are both E-8's you just have inadequency issues that you should address with your VA counselor. By the way I also only had the minimum time on grade when I was selected. Regardless I feel sorry for you both and the fact that you can not take joy in others accomplishments; you should go see Stewart Smalley he will make you feel better I am sure.

Congras on the promotion.

I have had oh at least 5 maybe 6 article 15's and one SCM. And made Warrant Officer. They all said it can't be done, not with my record.

But Turn my self around made SSGT then Warrant (1976).

I ran into my old Plt Sgt from Nam at Ft. Hood, TX, (he made Warrant in Nam and transfer out of the 25th Inf)He was a CW-3 then and I was out processing to go back to the 25th Inf in 1975, he almost fell out of his chair when he saw I was a SSGT..He said Rick the last time I saw you, I could have sworn you was on your way to long-bin jail...We had a good laugh.

Well, (oh by the way all the article 15's and the SCM were with the 25th Inf Div in 66-67 time frame)on I go to back to the 25th Inf Div but this time in Hawaii, almost got sent back to the wolfhounds, but I talk a good talk and got the 25th M.I. Det there with the 25th Inf Div. Well, in another year I made Warrant Officer, with the same Div that broke me down a few times.

The Lord and behold, but who shows up? My old Plt Sgt from Nam, they had him working in the warehouses and he saw me and said thats it, I quit..hahahahahahahaha (as a Wo-1) and ask where am I working? I told him at the DMMC and he said, get me there. I said I don't know if I can, he said RICK!!!!!!!! Get me there!!!!! Period...I again pull it off.

Ran across him a few more times in my career, he became one of the first to make Super Chief (CWO-5) and took over the Warrant Officer School in Al.

After that he went to Ft. Lee, Va and after reaching the age of 65 and a little over 30 yrs as a Warrant Office they force him to retire.

Thats been about 15 yrs ago now, the last I heard of him he was working as a contractor at Ft. Lee, VA. From there the trail goes cold for us two...he was a remarkable person and at one time was credited with having the highest IQ in the Army...He was smart but lack good old common sense...but a friend forever...

Hey Ranger how ya doing? For those who served with me and know me they would tell you that I was selected for the Academy back in 86 and turned it down so that I could go with my Team on very important MTT to Nigera for six months. I did not have to go. I could have turned it down like so many others would have and gone to the academy, put in my one year and made E-9. However, as a SF Team Sgt. I thought it was more important to go with my Team and complete the mission. Making E-9 was not a priority for me at that time. When I first came into the Army a CSM was God IMO. They were few and far in between. different in those days it meant something. However, I feel quite different now in that the military has turned into a business. Do we really need so many E-9s and CWO's in SF? And what is up with being a CW5 now? OK you want a pat on the back for making CSM then I will give you one. But I still believe one is respected for who he or she is and not by the rank they wear on their collar. Oh, one more thing CSM, before you put people down by claiming they have "inadequency" issues, you should learn how to spell the word.
