hello sir,
I signed a 11x contract with an option 40 back in august, but I am on delayed training until may. Recently, one of my buddies who is in airborne, 82nd I believe, asked me if I was going to brigade or school first and I didn't know for sure how to answer him. Also, he said the tab checks I will go through are going to be rough and I wasn't sure what that meant either. Please, if you are a ranger help me answer some of these questions. O, another thing, since I am 11x with option 40 if i make it all through school and get my tab will I be a ranger or just a tab wearer? and what will i be considered up until ranger school? just an infantry man?
Thanks for everything guys hope these questions aren't asked too often.

yes i defiantly have read through some of the posts of both those threads. but i cant lie it is really annoying to repetitively search different key words within those threads looking for such a specific answer to certain questions. im not asking about stupid questions like what MOS option 40 is available with. i just thought these questions were specific enough that maybe someone could take the time to help me out. sorry

I moved the post for you guys. I figured out the whole entering a ranger battalion even before being tabbed and all that, but i was wondering one thing. The captain of my future soldiers program suggested I begin Ruck marching in January to prepare for future forced marches. I did not know if i should invest in a rucksack to do these marches; I was planning on throwing some weight in a normal hikers pack i have and using that to at least train.

Grab a surplus Alice pack and frame, along with a willie pete bag.
Put sand in the willie pete bag, and place it in the radio compartment in the alice pack. It'll ride nice and high.
Start low, and work your way up on weight.

Thanks a lot for the ideas Lyle. I wasn't sure how exactly i would be able to add weight without using some kind of object but sand is a good idea .

Other (cheap) things that have worked as well; 40# bag of cat litter or playground sand. Keep the weight tight and high up on the frame. Realize this is an optimal set-up. IRL, the weight is going to occupy more volume, be distributed much more unevenly and probably sway as you walk.

Hey thanks for the help guys. Being in the military has been a tradition in my family since my great grandpa and I really dont want to let anyone down. It has been my dream of being in the Rangers for many years and I am willing to do the work to hopefully make it.

Just a couple of observations - if you find following repetitious instructions to be "annoying", your life is going to be VERY challenging in the near future. Also, when and if you ever become an Infantryman, perhaps you can make such a comment. Until then, I'd be careful about referring to "just an infantry man".

I do not have a problem following orders. I just hate sitting in front of a computer. That is why i volunteered for an Infantry position and not for an intelligence job which I had the test scores for (that and I have dreamed of becoming a ranger since I heard the word Army Ranger). Also, I meant no disrespect saying just and infantry man. Why would I want to disrespect the MOS I tried so hard to obtain? I was just wondering if I was considered infantry or something else since I had option 40 in my contract.
