Thanks for the quick reply.
Is there a minimum distance or time that you have to swim for? And out of curiousity, how do you swim with your rifle? |

The big thing about the swim is don't panic.
Relax and float while pushing/pulling yourself through the water. |

I'm guessing the 40 pounds is gear inside a waterproof bag to afford some bouyancy. 40 pounds of lead weight without any bouyancy would be hell to do.
I'd still do it, but more like walking along the bottom and bouncing up for air once in a while I love swimming, two weeks ago I did a 5.5 mile swim. Fins, mask, and sunblock. Took me 3hours 2mins. Next time I want to try it with a dummy rifle, 20lb. LBV, and a UDT Swim vest for safety. |

Ranger School currently tests the Combat Water Survival Assessment on Day 1 of Ranger Assessment Phase. The CWSA is like the old Water Confidence Test at Victory Pond. There's a 15-meter swim, a log walk about 30 feet in the air, a rope crawl and drop into the water, and a suspension traverse (ie zip line) into the water. The other possible event alluded to above is the Combat Water Survival Test, or CWST, which consists of the aforementioned pool length swim in ACUs, boots, LBV, and rifle; a 3-meter drop into the pool with LBV and rifle while blindfolded (standard is to not drop the rifle or panic, take off the blindfold and get to poolside); and the drop and ditch (jump into the pool with the LBV and rifle, take off the LBV and rifle and drop them while underwater). This info is readily available at the Ranger School website. ![]() |

Since ranger school is at the top today. Here is a question for you. Did anyone go when they made you wear k-pots? I remember shooting the bull with a bunch of guys and one of the guys just recently graduated from rgr school. We were all doing the "last hard class" BS and he said they had to wear k-pots (mid 90's I beleive), you know what if you had to wear a k-pot in rgr school your calss was harder than mine. That would just suck! I would rather go a week longer than wear that thing.

We wore k-pots alla time when I was there in 2000. But since I was at Group at the time, I thought that any k-pot wear was too much.
