Doing research for my next book; could a Delta operator use the MARSOC facilties at Camp Lejeune, or do they only operate out of Ft. Bragg? My dilemma is that I want his residence to be near the coast, but that wouldn't work if he has to live within 30 minutes of his command post. Are operators required to live close to base?

Okay, here's another question...do operators maintain any kind of "ready room" in their private residences? I'm guessing they don't bring their weapons home with them, but would they keep any specialized equipment at home, or would they always be required to go to the office (so to speak) before they went wheels up? If my heroine opened an operator's closet or dresser drawer, would she see any uniforms, of any kind?

Don't worry about what Delta does or doesn't do.

I'm not worried; I'd just prefer to write a story that has some ring of truth to it. I've done a lot of research, but I'm more interested in what an operator's life is like when he's at home versus in the field.

Thanks...as often as I've seen this (and been told that Delta is an airline) it still makes me smile.

You do know they are not going to respond to you right? They are silent in every sense of the word.

Why not just make up some elite special operations super secret agent team and write about them instead of trying to dig up information on a group that would much rather be left alone.

Yes. What if I were to ask these same questions (about ready rooms and uniforms) as they relate to traditional SOCOM guys? Same code of silence?

I'd much prefer to make stuff up, but I have my marching orders...I'm doing a series of military-themed books with four other authors. Each hero is from a different branch of the military, i.e., Navy SEAL, Marine Spec Ops, Army Green Beret, Air Force Pararescue. I've been asked to write my story about a Delta operator. It's a romance, so you know where most of the action takes place, right? I was just hoping to establish his backstory as realistically as possible, and not sound like a complete dork.

What nakes you think Special Ops love stories and lives at home are any different than other peoples? They fall in love, get married, have kids and help coach baseball teams the same as everyone else....

It's my favorite, too! Not possible, as I'm happily married, but I am grateful for everything these guys do (and that I'll never know about). Thanks for your help.
