I am trying to volunteer for Iraq as CA. I am not MOS Q'd in a CA MOS however I was given contact information to speak with an O-4 down at Fort Bragg who told a soldier in my unit who deployed CA to have me call him and he would hook me up with train up/deployment orders as CA. I have called/left messages over and over and I have gotten no response. I want to go and ASAP but I am being told the only way is to DD-368 out of my current unit and get into a reserve CA unit and go to the MOS school then beg and badger to get a deployment slot. The O-4 told the soldier in my unit that all I would need is a signed memorandum stating I was temporarily released for deployment... and then I would return to my old unit with my previous MOS.

I do not know what to do, I am frustrated and irritated with the process and getting no where. There is a war going on, and I want to GO and need help/contact information. Anyones help/advice/contact info would be great. Thanks

Go to www.soc.mil and follow links for USACAPOC. Find who you need.

Also, are you USAR or NG?

I am USAR. I was given a number for USACAPOC but it was no good. I have a contact at Fort Bragg that hopefully I will be able to reach... but maybe not. This crap is frustrating.

Strange how hard it is to deploy voluntarily yet when you don't want to go...

It took almost two years of volunteering before I was sent to Afghanistan last year. OTOH, this year I was very nearly sent out of my (shortage) MOS for an involuntary 400 day tour to the ME.
