Recommend you read -
"The Company They Keep" (written by a woman with a background in psychology and anthroplogy who is also the wife of a man who wears a Green Beret) for a good look at your life married to a SF trooper, and "Chosen Soldier" (written by a former SEAL) for a fairly recent rundown on the kind of training your man is going through and what is in store for him as a Professional Soldier. He will be gone...alot. You will seldom know when, where, what, why or for how long, and neither will he. Even when he is not deployed, he will spend alot of time training up for his next deployment, or attending courses away from his own team. Good Luck |

thank you so much for your answer!i will defenitly buy the books when i am next time in the states. it sounds scary but what can i do, i love him and i respect his job. i am very proud of him. i hope we can still have a good life with eachother even though he will be gone a lot.we have a long ditance realtion chip now so propobly not much will change even if i move to the states.
do you know where he could be deployed possibly? his language is arabic!i heard that is the 10th group, is that right? he told me that he will be possibly stationed either in colorado springs or stuttgart (germany),how big is the possibilitiy that he will be sattioned in germany?oh and one more question, how often will he have vacation? i am sorry for so many questions but i just dont know who else i can ask. thank you in adveance meg |

In years past, an Arabic speaker would almost certainly go the 5th Group, but in today's rotations he could go anywhere - yes, 10th Group is at Ft Carson, Colo. with a forward battalion at Stutgart.
He will get one month of leave per year, but he will most likely get it as block leave with the rest of his ODA. |

In the old days he would have been pipelined to 5th and Ft. Campbell (Kentucky). With today's tempo and based on what you are saying, it looks like he may be going to 10th. Two thirds of 10th is in Colorado and one third is in Stuttgart (Boblingen). |

thank you so much, for the info!hopefully ist going to be colorado :-) kentucky sounds like a forgotten place!i have one more question though, when will he know where he is going to be stationed will he know that before graduation?
oh he is arabic speaker i would like to know where he could be deployed, i mean logical would be some countries where arabic is the spoken language, is that right? Its just everything so confusing.... i got some really good information from the books though that SinePariDonster recommended to me, i read already "Choosen Soldier"which gave me a really good idea about what he is going through right now! thank you again meg |

10th Group is stationed at Fort Carson with a battalion in Germany. Their AoR is Europe, but with todays constant deployments he could end up deploying to anywhere in the world, Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa, Philippines regardless of which Group he ends up in or what language he speaks. I know that doesn't make much sense to someone who is new to the military, especially someone looking from the outside in, but that's the Army we are now and unless these wars end sometime soon, it's going to be that way for the foreseeable future.

It's actually OK, your about 8 hours drive from Chicago, an hour North of Nashville, 3 hours South of Ft. Knox and Louisville, KY. Lots of history in the area and lots to see and do, IMO. |
