I guess im using this as an outlet so bare with me.Ive just got back from one of those great places and have gotten to do alot of contimplation.I re-found this discussion forum and, hell there are a few of you who know what the deal is and there are quite a few of you who dont so i will take advantage as much as i can to pass on information to the unknowing and relate to the knowing. This forum is a great thing i think.
i would first like to address those of you who havent ventured into our world yet and who think they are going to make an attempt. Ive been able to say it a few times on here. My belief is that special forces is a gift from god ( and im not a religious kinda guy). the intent that our founders had was genius and they had balls the size of a football stadium. As part of your research as to why you may go this route you should invest a good amount of time reading about such missions as the "son tay raid" and the people involved and the ( haha) balls it took and what they really put on the line to ensure the safety and security of those people they volunteered to extract. You need to take a hard look at whats going on on your inside and except the reality that you might not come back from something. There are many other Daring operations that have taken place that were extremely hazardous. You must take a serious look at the type of person that performs these tasks. Ive been running along questions about PT and length of the course ETC. Yes these are ligitimate concerns that myself or any of the other operator on here would probably be willing to answer... they are the easy questions to answer. There are things that run alot deeper though. As cliche and hollywood as it may sound... remember one thing... the dude to your left and to your right. I found it funny when the heat was turned on how the egos and the PT capabilities vanished and how the training and care for one another flowed. I didnt give a ****ing damn about the higher levels intentions or the "great cause"... i gave a **** about the dude in the turret and when you initially dont hear him return fire you dont get angry, you wonder if hes about to fall to his knees. As difficult as it is to convey, you must understand the reason why you may earn that "tab" ( i hate that word)and what responsibilities it entails.... brother, your gunna get shot at and blown up at. Dont take that for granted and blow it off, which some of you younger bloods may do. understand it doesnt matter what hat you wear, shrapnel does not descriminate nor do bullets... you can get killed. everything else is gayness. great you can get a 300 on your pt test but can you accuratly lay down a base of fire while we maneuver. will the fear paralize you. You must address what you do in stressfull situations now. you must understand dealings with people and culture. You must want to learn people. We cannot afford your aversions to other cultures and foods (eat it, drink it)etc etc. you have to be able to turn yourself on and turn yourself off with a distint interval inbetween. you must understand the need for every other job in the army and not descriminate there responsibilitie ( maybe the person).... you need to eat and you need to get paid. you must need to recognize a problem and instead of griping figure out a solution and present it in a professional manner. people here turn off when they hear whining. you must further your education and have no attachment to a particular MOS, everyF***ing MOS is equally important on the team (w/o a risk assesment you might not do that PMT, thankyou 18A keep at it and ill just run the ranges).you must have situational awarness and know your operational enviroment...and as been drivin into all the heads of my Q course generation, absolutly never ever give up. get dirty and **** it all....you got this, you got this. To those of you who been around... well s**t. Im here to add to the humor. Bring the punches because i havent stopped learning.Let me knwo when im out of line or if my fact are F'ed up. I dont want to pass on any info that may be misleading to someone who might not be wanted in the regiment(s). Ive kept my profile vague so if you need varification of my credentials for your own gratification let me know. " heres to guns that shoot strait. parachutes that inflate, girls who bang on the first date, and operators who operate." den |

Im not in special forces but I have been talking to my recruiter and posted a couple of the topics in this discussion board about Special Forces, so this post is really helpful. I am working with my recruiter right now in trying to get me a special forces contract when I enlist. Thanks for the insight and best of luck to you. |

stick to it bro and if thats want you really want dont except anything less. Your looking at two years+ at being on training status.
but its very doable and is being done everyday. when you get to the beggining of the path you can barly see te light at the end of the tunnel. but if you dont quit, give it all you got and dont have a run of bad luck, you will be an operational team member... ( and then the unwritten probation begins ) |

I apperciate the words of encouragement. I will be talking more with me recruiter tomorrow so we will see what happens. The only issue that I would have is my girlfriend who is soon to hopefully be my wife wouldn't be able to go back east with me unless we were married, right? But truth be told if things are going to work then they will my major concern is keeping my head right and thinking clearly at all times. thanks again |

hummm,
ok, ill tell you what i have seen with what your saying. I dont know how old you are or what life experiences you may have (please dont tell me). but ill just throw some stuff out there for you to think about.... and again this is coming from me, someone else on here may have something else for you. understand that you are stepping into a commitment that you cant just step away from ( the army that is). if you havent started basic training yet.. im trying to be as serious about it here as i can.. but alot of guys have a hard time with success when it comes to girlfreinds. If your stepping into this not being married yet you may want to evaluate how important this girl is to you because you need to prioritize. I said it somewhere else on here, if someone comes to the q course or group with a marriage thats already weak, statistically it does not get better and that is a fact. im not saying that SF's FRG isnt good, it might be, but the lifestyle can still be hard on a woman ( and i think the younger the harder). All of this can be a major distraction for anyone. my advice as far as this situation goes is to make sure everything in your personnel life is a strait as it can be ( finances, family etc.) before signing on to this. If your s**t is in order you will then be more valuable to us. Nothing aggrivates some people more than when a fresh, green dude got a duffelbag full of problems. He winds up taking up a spot on the team then needs endless amounts of time to straiten **** out. The train doesnt stop rolling for you. One of the first questions my company sgm asked me was "how much time did you need to get your stuff in order." then after walking into the team room one of the first questions my team sgt asked me was "how much time do you need to get your stuff in order".(get it). Now with that, they would have giving me a month to square "stuff" away. But you should be able to, when asked the same question, tell them that you only need 2 weeks or whatever. Maybe this is more info than you wanted to hear. now to answer your question specifically, when your married you can take your wife to anywhere you are stationed (unless there is something out there i dont know about). Now during basic training and ait its a different story. Im sure that when you get to bragg and your in SOPC and the q-course you can live off post or in government housing ( i was single and living in the barracks at that time so im not the best on the living situations for married couples). But again bro, think about what your getting into and prioritize. dont rush it and screw up your chances at SF and your relationship. If you jump the gun you might have a bad year .....a very bad year! good luck |

I know exactly what you mean, and to be honest I have had a couple life changing events over the past year, and realized that I want more for my life and do something greater then the average. Maybe I'm not making sense, but the point I'm trying to make is in the end my career comes first. I will make sure that I figure things out in my personal life before I leave for basic. Oh, by the way I am 29yrs old, so my life experiences I believe will help me. Thanks again for advice, and best of luck to you. |

Hey Zenn. Read your previous posts and I was wondering if you could do me the grand honor of replying to my post in the "18x, Option 40" section. Its the last post on page 41.
You seem to know your s*** and thats exactly the kind of person I need to talk to, to answer some questions I have about this 18xray MOS I've qualified for. Thanks again. |
