It would shatter many people's belief that the Earth is the only planet to contain life. Could people handle such information. Busch and Cheny are devout Christians, would they put the squeeze on NASA from releasing the truth about Mars? Curious what you have to say on the subject.

I think that just because the Bible is silent on life on other Planets that it is no reason to think there is not.
The Government would most likely cover it up to prevent mass panic.

Besides, I don't think we have enough money in our military budget to deal with this..

God gave man the ability to reason, to think, to question. He gave us a drive to discover and an awareness of self. He didn't give us all this and more so that we could hide our heads in the sand. If life is anywhere in the universe then God put it there for us to discover. Religious leaders who fear such things are not giving due credit to God.

Oh great, a "Day The Earth Stood Still" remake. I like Keanu Reeves, but...I think this is one movie I am going to have to take on it's own merits, because I would be doing the movie a great disservice if I tried to compre it to the original.

Just like W.O.W...

Well, one thing for sure, Gort is probably going to be pretty amazing.

There is NO WAY Earth is the only planet with humanoid life on it in the Universe.

I was a kid in the 50's and a Sci-fi junkie. Saw all the originals; W.O.W, Body ******ers, The Thing, The Fly, etc. I'm still a Sci-fi fanatic, having seen most of the remakes I have found them to be even more fun. If nothing else the special effects today are so much more realistic. As long as the remake doesn't change the story line then I'm OK with it.

I agree 100%,but my conspiracy theory deals with the gov't hiding the evidence because they feel people couldn't handle the truth. Along the same theories as Roswell and Area 51.

Relative to your last post: I don't know why the government would cover it up unless the discovery yielded some info/substance/weapon vital to national defense. From a purely Christian view point I would think the discovery would be hailed as something wonderful. The Bible says God created the heavens to show His Glory and for our pleasure. Remember Christ died for the sins of MAN, not the microbes, fishes, animals, birds of the air or alien life forms. So any other life form discovered on Mars or anywhere else only enhances God's Glory but poses no danger to the Christian's faith or belief.

I've heard that "can't handle the truth" before and have always wondered "why not?". As for Roswell and Area 51; is it not possible that the government allowed those rumors to continue and build in order to explain our testing of new aircraft? What better way to mask secret flights then to chalk any sightings up to UFO's.

I have to agree with you NSNN.
It's pretty ignorant to think that we are the only life in this enormous universe.

Back in 1996 a story appeared about a meteorite that seemed to proove life existed on Mars at some point in time. As I recall, most folks handled the news quite well.

Martian meteorite

I rather doubt the government would take part in any coverup. They would probably try to take credit for funding NASA. And as far as the Vatican is concerned, the inquisition is over. The church is willing to accept science even when it sometimes contradicts scripture.

A few points here:

1 Bush and Cheny aren't devout Christians.

2 Life on other worlds, even intelligant life, dosen't contradict scripture.

3 Most of these freaky unidentified craft are of human origin.

4 These incredable technologies are kept hidden because of the radical change to the status quo. Unlimited free energy and manipulation of gravity would make far too many people independant of government and those people that just want to be in charge all the time. Imagine if you had a homestead with it's own electric power that dosen't cost a penny. You wouldn't need a job if you didn't want one; you would be busy raising crops.

With such power sources, droids like in Star Warswould finally be practical to do most of the farm chores. With droids helping in the work, you could barter for whatever goods you'd need, leaving any taxation out of the mix.

With gravity manipulation, i.e. flying cars and devices that allow you to shift tons of materials by yourself, there would be no need for roads or manual labor crews(no DMV, highways department or filing 941s). If a growing percentage of the population was totally self-sufficient, how would such people be taxed and controlled?

On the other hand, such power would be too easy to be abused by the criminal element. Self-sufficient people would have to be armed. Organized crime would develop planet buster bombs etc.
