Hello
Anyone out there have any info on the M16B halftrack, this was an M2 with the Quad 50 mount installed. I recently purchased an ARMORTEK M2 halftrack and want to build this version in honor of the 555th AAA Battalion. I am mainly seeking info on the crew compartment arrangement. Space was limited so the gas tanks were removed, would anyone know exactly where they were moved too? David Patterson |

I realise it's been three months since you asked this so here go'es the gas can's were mounted on the sides of the cab just in front of the door's. You can google it M-16 motorgun carrige |

Thank you for the advise but im actually looking for the main gas tanks that were mounted in the crew compartment, the M2 had two tanks on each side of the crew compartment. The M16B was a field conversion done on some of the older M2s to provide extra AAA protection, in order to do the conversion everything in the crew compartment was stripped out to make room for the quad 50 mount, both gas tanks had to be removed because the M2 had a short crew compartment, i have been told that only one was kept and it was moved to the bulkhead that divides the cab from the crew compartment, i just need to confirm this. Thank you again for the response...

Monogram has/had a halftrack with the double machine gun mount which was in use before the gun motor mount you describe. Their model also had the gas tanks inside the crew compartment, one each side. I did not know they had been moved.
As this is a specialized modification, have you written to National Archives and Records Administration to see if they have photos of inside that gun motor mount? I suggest you do. However all the photos I have seen are from the outside as the quad is firing. I also suggest you do a search on Amazon.com. I found a book by the title of M3 Infantry Half-Track 1940-73 (New Vanguard) by Steven Zaloga and Peter Sarson (Paperback - Jan 16, 1995). On the cover it has a copy of the 105 MM howitzer half track. The gas tanks have been moved all the way to the back, by the rear door. One on each side. There are about 35 books, some may have more photos than others. And the first book listed although unavailable was about the M16 motor weapons carriage... |

Thanks for the advise, i will take a look at those books you mentioned. The only really logical place for the gas tank would be behind the driver much like the T19 or the M15A1, i will keep searching....

Actually that should be the T1E2, not the T19.
