Hi,
My Dad was a career Air Force man. I sent for and received his military records - luckily, they had NOT burned in the fire. There was plenty of info about his WW2 years, then more info when he quit and signed up again in the same year after the war. Then . . . nothing! Until his retirement in 1964.
I know he was in the Strategic Air Command most of that time - are those records still restricted or top secret? I just want the records of promotions, awards, etc.
My question is, does anyone know if there's a separate address for the SAC to write for my Dad's records?
Any info will be greatly appreciated - I'm putting together a "book" about my Dad for all the grandchildren.

Thanks,

Bonnie

Hello Bonnie,

Unfortunately, there is only one record center and that is the NPRC in St. Louis, MO. SAC personnel records are not restricted. I worked at the record center prior to retiring in 2005. I'm pretty certain they sent you what was available in the record.

MSgtGregSzanyi,

Well, OK then. Weird that there's so many documents covering his every move during WW2,
then this 18 year gap until retirement, though. It's not like he didn't do anything during those years.
Thanks for your reply and, BTW, a BIG thank you for the work you and your co-workers do
at the records center - those papers mean so
much to the family.

Bonnie

SSgt65,

Yes, I do have his DD214 - it's the only thing that even mentions SAC and what bomb squad he ended up in. In Item #28 (Decorations, medals,
certificates, etc), there's a list of things, but they're in Air Force abbreviations and we can't make most of them out.
I just somehow expected more on his career in the AF and SAC, I guess. He never talked about it much.
Thanks for your reply!

For veterans who were discharged or retired prior to 1 October 2002, Medals may be requested by sending a written request along with a copy of the DD 214 or other discharge papers to:
National Personnel Records Center (NPRC)
9700 Page Boulevard
St. Louis, MO 63132-5100

The request can also be submitted electronically through the NPRC website - http://vetrecs.archives.gov/

my mother inlaw lost her dad in ww2,, I help her get his medals,, this is where i got them from,, i know it says army but it is still at st Louis , same place...
