Basic Training

What to expect from FMF school. Well there is the PT, getting yelled at,PT, marching, getting yelled at because you can't march the Marine Corps way, PT, classroom instruction on treating battlefield casualties, getting yelled at because people are falling asleep, PT, force marches, PT, more force marches, PT, more classroom stuff, guard duty, FAM firing M-16, PT, learning how to use the radio, learning how to set up ambushes, obstacle course, casualty obstacle course, treating battlefield injuries, treating chem war injuries, gas chamber (Where even the brave cry), Did I mention the PT. Actually it was a lot of fun once you get through it and it is an experience that you will remember for the rest of your life. Now this is what happened when I went to FMF back in 1993. Things could have changed but I don't see how much they could have changed. You have to be in decent shape to go greenside especially if you are assigned to the grunts. Just don't ever quit. Many times I wanted to just say I quit I can't take another step but then you see guys on the safety vehicle with their heads hung down and realize not me. They kind of have a shameful look on their face and I didn't want any part of that. Just do what the instructors tell you and you should be fine. It's like going back through bootcamp except with Marines yelling at you and you also get to knock off at 1630, unless you've got duty or are in the field. Good luck and remember "The Marine Corps already has a few good men, Navy Corpsmen."
