I'm trying to help out a friend on looking up info on the officer medical side.
Brief background. Female, 21, graduates in May, premed - Biology. She wants to ultimately be a family practitioner.
We were talking about the fact that the military could help her pay for med school. I explained what I know about the commitments for service after graduation. However, I'm more keen on the enlisted side vice the officer side as far as medical is concerned. Can y'all help me with some easy to read websites/info that I can pass on to her. I'm looking into the Officer Programs manual and trying to "lamens term" it, but figured something she could go read herself would be better. Thanks.

Their is two routes she can take: HPSP or USUHS.
The following link breaks down the FAQ for both. If I was her and didnt have military background I would do HPSP.

I would recommend the opposite. Without a military background USUHS is a much better intro to the military than staying at a civilian med school. USU will assign her to military and civilian facilities for training and she would be with military faculity and other students with military experience to guide her and assist in the transition. Plus you get FULL pay and allowances, free text books, and tuition while attending.

Posted by a retired Army nurse (check her pfofile-she's amazing), and full of good information pertinent to all branches in pretty basic terminology.
