i have been looking at some of the NECs available to HMs, in your experienced opinions what is the best NEC to hold??

0000?
8401?
8404?
8427?
8493?

is it possible to hold more than one NEC?

yeah you can hold more than one NEC, I'm not sure if there is a limit though. Your probably going to end up a 0000/8404, but you can get more. 8404 is a very good experiance, but always try to get something you can use in the civilian world too.

as far as i know when i was in you could have multiple NEC's, but some would overshadow others. i was a

0000 and 8404, however my 8404 NEC was always before my 0000.. subsiquently had i gone to a C school i would have 8404, my C school NEC, then 0000..

just really depends on what you do. as far as i know i thought they were making all corpsman go 8404?? i went through in 2001, so im sure things have changed quite a bit

I am slanted towards 8432. nice NEC and has good opportunities to work on your own in the field as an 8404/8432. And pretty good advancement chances. A great jump on that bachelor degree too.

what is an 8432?

ok another question... my main goal in the navy is to be some kind of MEDIC, like an emergancy medical techinician. i actually already am a certified EMT-B in the civilian world, and i love that type of work. what would be the best NEC to work in the emergancy field???

if you want to go places...8404..you will be attatched to a marine unit and they will take you anywhere you want.. and then some lol. but its hard work. if you want ship life, im not sure the best route to go. but for gods sake try your best not to be blue side.. it sucks

not sure if you could go SAR with FMF, but i dont see why not..

if you want to do that kind of stuff why not go FMF and try going force recon... thats as close to anything like that i can think of.. but maybe someone else can shine some more light on that. i never got farther then FMF, broke my ankle...again lol

8404 with the grunts will get you that first responder stuff you want and you have less chain of command to deal with. I loved it

8432 is Preventive Medicine Technician, a very interesting course of training and responsibilities are very diverse

You can be an 8404 and fly, but that is on missions that are strictly CASEVAC. If you do go to the Wing, be **** hot. Then when those orders come up, because it is not full time, they will turn to you.

You won't go to NACCS. But you will be sent to some good schools. I am not really too familiar with what is incurred in that, because they are taking our billets! Just kidding, good on them for doing it. Go for it if that is what you want to do.

I would concentrate on Boot Camp and A school now, worry about that stuff later on.

Thanks! I'm still trying to figure out which NEC I want... is it normal to make a decision after "A" school or should I choose now?
