hey guys i just got orders to go to fmtb in pendleton ca. after i graduate i have orders to the 3rd marine medical battalion in okinawa japan. i was wondering if anyone knew anything about what they do and or what they are going to do. if you are from there a story or 2 would be awesome.
I just came from a 3 year tour at 3rd Med. If you haven't left already and found out for yourself how much 3rd Med sucks I'll e-mail you everything you want to know. I just don't want to put anybody on blast in here, even though they deserve it.
I have a good friend who is an IDC with 3MLG, I went to 3rd Med out of A school back in 96 and spent the next 4 years on Okinawa and then 3 in Iwakuni
Each station is going to be what YOU make of it and what YOU want to get out of it. 3FSSG is what it is and no better or worse than many other duty stations in the navy
So to finish what I am saying, get to 3rd Med and try to get the PHTLS, EMT and other opeational schools, deploy if available and work to learn as much as you can.
"Better dead than with 3rd Med"! J/K It sucked when I was stationed at 3rd med we were on cinderala liberty basically had to be in bed by midnight because to many people got in trouble out in town. Marines picking fights and fliping cars over! Flipside I took a few online courses with UMUC, got EMT, PHTLS, certifications.
ok, STOP what you are doing right now and get on the phone and call your detailer their might be still time to get out of your 3D Med orders Trust me!! haha seriously though!
No way dude, keep those orders! 3rd Med rocks dude. It's pretty much a 24 hr. party in the barracks, liberty is so relaxed....no restrictions at all. The water bulls are filled with beer in the field. Oh, and the mandatory fun days are killer. You're treated like an adult at all times as well, not like a little kid unable to think for yourself. Yeah dude, snatch those orders up and tell your friends to try to grab them as well. Now! Run!

Oh no, they are on to much bigger and better things like getting drunk at noon and headbutting old Japanese ladies outside of Kintown. But the Marines who go around and beat the s*%t out of other Marines and Sailors for kicks is my favorite. We call it the Hansen Special.
Oh yes. I've been through 7 of them altogether. I didn't feel depressed and isolated from my family until they made me sit through a 3 hour brief reminding me I was depressed and isolated. But a few hours at River Mountain or one of the buy me drinkie bars always cheered me up. I really loved the back in the saddle training as well. That's the only time I ever went to the theater on Hansen was to get a brief or to be told why III MEF was being put on restriction cuz somebody f*^&#d up again.
Well hopefully they are still serving up Habu (spelling?) Saki and taco, rice, and cheese. Ahh yes the infamous buy me drinkie bars. No matter what country u go to u can always find a good ol' buy me drinkie bar and maybe play a game of smiles with your buds.
