I have a quick question for you guys. I am active duty on shore duty (3 year billet but will most likely be extended). The dentist here basically told me I wasn't going to be able to get braces through the Navy because they are so selective. What are the rules regarding me going outside to a civilian dentist and getting the Invisalign procedure? Keep in mind, I don't expect the Navy to cover any costs it would all come from my pocket. Do I need to go through the Navy to do that or is this something I can do on my own?
Where I can work this is the way we do it. If a member wants ortho they must get command authorization. Let me explain. The reason is because you cannot deploy during your treatment.
If you did not get command approval first and had them put on and they decided to send you on an IA those braces are coming off. That is why you must get command approval first. That has nothing to do if you are going to pay for to treatment.
i just went throught this crap. getting my braces off next month. i ran a chit through my command to have this done. you can get the paperwork through your dental clinic. its a small packet that explains the procedures/timeline to your command.
i was on the waiting list forever and ended up paying for it out of pocket. its because i needed it for pure cosmetic reasons, so that meant other people with greater needs were always put ahead of me on the list.
