My background:
I was 4 years enlisted. Earned my bachelor's degree after the military. Now I need a job, and enlisting (even with a BS degree) is very attractive to pay off some bills and have a stable job. It will also get my "time-in-service" started again..... So, if I do sign in for 5 years and apply for dental schools (THEN APPLY TO THE MILITARY DENTAL CORPS), will they (ENLISTED component) let me go without completing my enlistment contract? What are the Navy requirements for an enlisted person who is accepted to a dental school into the dental corps? What issues (other than enlisted deployments) will I encounter? How helpful is the officer community in the transition? Thanks. |

Talk with a medical officer recruiter about Dental school programs. They may have a health professional scholarship program or something like it for dentist. You might be able to re-enlist as a corpsman but I doubt it HM is not a critical rate and thus unlikely to be open for prior service (read the prior service/NAVET threads in the Joining forum).

a certain MCAT score and average will get you a scholorship and stipend. there is now a signing bonus that you can use to pay off debt. Do not enlist first. Take test for dental school then call the recruiter with your score. If you get into dental school they will pay your tuition and expenses while you are in school.
