hi guys, i'm new in this site and i just need some info about the benefits if you are medical retired or discharge.
I join the navy last 09/2008 during the bootcamp i got positive PPD (skin test) for TB. They give the INH for that and i took until to my "A" school. Last December i went home for Xmas vacation but i got jaundice my skin and eyes turned yellow and i was admitted to the hospital Jan. 2, 2009 and i got my liver transplant Jan. 26, 2009 because that is the only way to save my life. i'm still in disability leave right now and i guess i'll face MEB this month. Do you think they will keep me on active duty? what are the difference between medical retired and discharge and what are their basis for med. retirement? cause i really need tricare, my meds are so expensive with out ins..How long is the MEB and PEB process?

Thank you. All inputs are greatly appreciated.

The PEB will make a determination regarding your fitness for duty. If they find that you are under 30% disabled then you will be offered medical severance pay. If over 30% then you will be medically retired. Either way you are still eligible for VA benefits including medical care.

Once the PEB findings are returned you can request permanent Limited duty. All this will be covered in TAPS and DTAPs classes that will be arranged by the PEB Liaison Officer at the Hospital.
