im sure this question has been asked before. im just wanting some basic info. im currently stationed in guam. working at naval hospital ER. im approaching my 9 month window for orders. i either have to put in my package for a c school or pic orders. pretty much if i don't go to school i have to go fmf. im leaning more towards fmf. i haven't been to fmss yet. so my question is what are some exercises that i can do beside the obvious (running, pushups, situps) to get me in shape for fmss. im not all fat and nasty like some fleet returnees can be. im just out of shape. the medical knowledge in fmss i know i can handle its the physical part i know i need to get ready for. any help would be good.

get the 3 mile run down. have the ability to run a 3 mile run fast. that was the hardest hurdle I found fleet'ers struggling with. It is different than running 1.5 miles. The rest of the school is like other C schools. Camp Pendleton is a great base to be stationed at. I loved it.

Personally, I would put in a package for a C school. When I was in you had to attend FMSS as a prereq for C school. Besides pushup and sit ups you will do the following exercises as well: Hello dollies, flutter kicks, sun gods, half jacks, 8 count body builders, and pull ups. 9 months is plenty of time to get into shape. I was able to go from 24 min on my 3 mile to low 20s in 6 months, and at fmss i got it in the 19s. You might consider visting stew smith webpage as I used his program to help me.

Honestly, if you saw some of the Sailors they are churning out of FMSS lately you wouldn't be worried. It's pretty much a joke. Don't go in out of shape but really, don't stress it. You'll be fine.

Bluescope hit it dead on. At least in 93 when I went through field med at Camp Johnson. Keep the SEAL motto "The only easy day was yesterday" in mind. Because most of it is mental you can go that little extra you just have to get past the mental block. You will do just fine. You may also want to get a pack and start doing some road marches just a few miles at a time. Start with tennis shoes and then move to boots. Don't try to overload your pack all at once. Just work it gradually. Believe in yourself, stay motivated and help out the other members in your platoon, squad, and fire team and you will come out of it okay. You will learn to hate flutter kicks and sun gods, especially those dang sun gods. They are a b*tch when your arms feel like they are going to fall off. You will enjoy field med, at least when you look back on it. At least I did. It was an experience I will remember the rest of my life.

I am going to go with Devious here. I went through in May of 2006 and FMSS (Or FMTB as it is no known) Is weak sauce, Just get ready for stupid games and libo rules, even if you are a fleet returnee.

I would agree start putting some weight on your back and walk at a fast pace. Start with a couple of miles and move up. I went through FMTB Aug-Oct 07. I am a 36 year old E-6. For me I thought it was tough physically. I think the marches were probably the toughest. Anything you can do to get you in shape will help. I went through Camp Johnson in North Carolina. I have heard that Camp Pendelton is tougher. I am not sure about that.

Pendleton has hills and spends more time in the field but I hear that Le June has humidity that is kiler, especially in the summer. overall though i wouldn't be too worried.
