I am with the USCGR (Port Security Unit 305) I will be attending Loadmaster Training in March 08 at Otis ANGB, MA. I was wondering if someone could give me some advise on what to prepare for. This class is only 7 days.
The Army would send people to a loadmaster qual course, but it is also 1 or 2 weeks long. It is just that...a cargo build up course...how to properly palletize, how to secure, how to set up for sling-load on helos, etc.

Not to down the Army, but seeing how they build pallets and prepare cargo for flight in the AOR... maybe the school should be longer!
It was a quick fam course, for the most part...not a qual course by any means. Basically, it brings you to a level where you can help those who know what they are doing in an OJT type environment without having to re-invent the wheel on weight and balance fundamentals. Weight x Arm = Moment, 101...along with the fundamentals of securing loads (the negative aspects of aft shifting loads...like mass death, etc.)
I agree, more of that type stuff should be taught prior to getting into the AOR. Then again, my list of things that should be covered pre-deployment grows larger every day...you know?
Congrats. Very useful tool. One tip that kills me everytime I fly. Remember there are different varieties of C-130. I don't know how many times I get a load plan telling me to put a pallet in pallet position 1. If I were to do that on my MC-130P it would be sitting in the Radio Operators lap.
Speaking of Loadmaster training just a quick question I am in the ANG on Long Island and I am leaving to start all of my schools in May and I was wondering if anyone knew if BLM was moved to Lackland. Thank you
