Hey everyone my AFSC is 2T2 Air Trans and I have been reading up a lot about this job. I know that there are a lot of different jobs to this career field. (ie, PAX, FS, ATOC, Load Planning, Ramp)
But I read this: "There are a number of opportunities for a sharp Air Trans troop to do some very exciting things. Aerial Delivery is part of the Air Trans career field. Aerial Delivery troops are responsible for airdropping equipment to personnel on the ground. Those that are chosen to work in Aerial Delivery will attend Army Rigger School, learn to pack parachutes, and learn to "rig" stuff to get pushed out of airplanes."
How do you get the job in Aerial Delivery. Is it cool? This sounds like something I will really like and I want to know the best way to get into it and more info about it.
If anyone knows anything about this please tell me what you know!!
Thanks!!

Sorry about the late reply (been overseas) Rigging is not going to happen at our unit. I know Ive been begging for it for two years now. To get to rig you would need to be at a unit that has a AD mission. Basically a C130 squadron. The only ones around here are Air Guard, one in Mansfield and one in Youngstown. Im considering a transfer myself, along with a dozen other options.... I have occupational ADD.
Thanks LRSDRANGER!! Yeah I wish Wright-Patterson AFB was an Active Aerial Port. That would be cool if they had more AFB that actually offer the Rig program. Thanks again!
Morgan ... I've been a Port Dawg my whole USAF career and spent much of that time rigging. At the time I retired, USAF personnel were still NOT authorized to attend rigger school at Ft Lee. That fun school ended around early 2002 I believe. Anyway ... USAF personnel are allowed to attend basic familarization training (At Pope AFB taught by the 3rd APS personnel last I heard). This "basic" hands on training is ONLY good for air crew training loads. The hands on basic skills training does not cover all aspects of rigging and therefore you will not be able to do any (what's called) final inspection (or FI) of any air drop loads.
Not attending the rigger school at Ft Lee will also preclude you from ever being able to sew on "Rigger Wings".
Thanks for your reply TsgtTharin. Yeah I wish I could do rigging but unfortunately my reserve home base is Wright-Patt AFB and they are currently not an active Ariel port. Aren't they only 2 bases that do rigging still?

UNsure which ANG/AFR bases still Rig ... I do know that Youngstown still does. I was a reserve in the late 80's there. Went AD in '89.
As far as AD bases I know of, there is McChord, Little Rock, Dyess, Altus, Charleston, Ramstein, Yokota, Moody (I think), Pope ... Although McChord, Dyess and Charleston have recently gone civilian contract in the past couple years. I'm sure more will follow soon since Ft Lee isn't allowing AF personnel back in their school, sooner or later all the old wing wearing riggers will have retired, died, etc. leaving nobody to do the work.
