I was looking around these boards and just wondered whats going on around McChord AFB...I was there during the late 1960s. In fact after basic and tech school I was assigned to McChord for the duration of my 4 years. I was in OMS on C141s...spent about a year as a 141 CC...It was a long time ago but I can still remember some VERY good times and still think about it and miss it.
Last time I was there it was a very busy place. The 141's are of course all gone, but the ramp is very active with C-17's. Most of the old squadron buildings have been replaced with shiny new ones with the exception of billeting.
Thanks for the update....I had seen on some other sites that all the old WWII style buildings are gone and a lot of new buildings have been built...I was really surprised that the area between the main C-17 ramp(called Baker ramp when I was there)and the ramp where the long row of hangers are that used to be vacant rock strown area now is many many buildings( I would guess aircraft squadron buildings)
McChord is pretty slow. I'm at the pax terminal, and over the next 3 days we have a total of 8 flights going out accepting pax. We had a few exercises last week. I'm going to avoid getting into any detail for opsec purposes.
Does McChord have C130's at all or any airframe needing FEs? The reason I asked is because I'm to become an FE (school starts 26 Nov) and I want to get stationed there so badly.
Sorry but have to chime in myself. I was assigned to the 446 MSS from 2002-2007. Born and raised in Washington and miss the beautiful base. And oddly enough I even miss the sounds of hearing the C17's fire up out on the flight line.

Did they also replace the main building?
I was there in 1988-1991.
Recently saw a Google map showing the barracks that I lived in gone.
When I was there, they had C-141's and C-130's, then at the other end of the runway, they had the reserve fighter wing.
IF you watch 'Cops' on a regular basis, you'll see all of the lovely nightlife here in Pierce County, where McChord is. The surroundings are a dump, and Seattle is boring after about 2 hours. All of the air traffic goes to Travis now, so you'll spend most of your time sitting on your thumb. Skip McChord at all costs.
