Camp Sherman was a large post created for WWI deployment to France for soldiers. The Post was named after the Civil War General.. Tecumseh Sherman from Lancaster, Ohio. Camp Sherman housed the 83rd Infantry Division and many others. Today on the present Camp Sherman grounds in Chillicothe, Ohio set the VA Medical Center, Two State Prisons and Unioto Grade, Middle and High School(s). The rifle range is still utilized by the Army National Guard and State Highway Patrol and Police Unit(s) for marksmenship training. There is also a Army National Guard Armory built on the grounds, recently replacing the old City Park Army National Guard Armory.
Here are two great websites concerning the Post. "www.ohiohistorycentral.org/entry-images.php?rec=670" "www.campsherman.org" Hot links outside of Military.com, unless they are to a "dot-mil" or "dot-gov" site, or are listed on the Military and Veterans Associations page, are NOT allowed. I strongly advise reading the Discussion Forum Basics thread on the rules concerning links and the list of approved ones. Further postings containing unapproved "hot" links are subject to editing and additional measures being taken, up to (and including) suspension. This message has been edited.
