My recruiter recently told me about a "peace keeping mission" in Kosovo this nov, and Im signed up. Has anyone heard anything about it?...that can possibley give more details, my recruiter didnt tell me that much about it.

Any deployments to Kosovo are peacekeeping mission and you are attached to NATO. This isn't a special deployment since here has been a US presence in Kosovo since 1998 or so I believe. What state are you in?

There are a lot of guys around here with experience in Kosovo. I think "drillsgto" has been there very recently. I am supposed to go on that same deployment you are talking about. I look forward to it.

40th IBCT 184th infantry. Things could change though as I am sure we all know. I will believe it once I get the orders in my hand. Ihave heard rumors about all sorts of deployments, but that is all they are are rumors..so just have to wait and see what happens.

m unit is supposed to have boots on ground in kosovo in june or july this year, so you will probably see me, we start our predeployment training in March.

Are you supposed to be in Country in November or start your training in November.

I had heard the 40th IBCT was mobilizing '09 and pre-mob in nov '08. I am in HHC. Now I hear only certain units are going and not the whole of the 40th. You can volunteer to go along if you want.

Sounds like the rumor mill is at full throttle. RUNFURET who are you attached to now in the 40th?

I'm in C Troop 1-18th Cav. Word is that we will be going back to division when we deploy though. As for right now, we are part of the 40th IBCT.

I am meeting up with a recruiter tomorrow.

How do you guys know were you will be deployed in advance? Kosovo sounds interesting, if I were to join what are the chances I would be deployed there this year. or for that matter any other place this same year?
I'm located in Los Angeles if that matters.

Units sometimes receive warning orders about their future deployments if they are on a predictable rotation. The 1SG gets everybody together and tells them the news usually. From what I understand the California National Guard has a Kosovo, and an Iraq deployment coming up. Talk to your recruiter about which units are going where.

From what I know the Iraq deployment is mainly MPs. Some from my husbands unit are going. I don't know the exact details though because as far as we know my husband isn't going this time.

There is an Infantry unit from the Cal Guard going to Iraq I believe.

Ya I am pretty sure a company from our battalion is going to Iraq. The rest of us are going to Kosovo. Nt exactly where I wanted to go, but oh well...it is what it is.

Im glad to be going to Kosovo. Wether it be right, wrong, or neither, war is some of the most sustained and gross suffering people can be subject to. I'm glad to be going somewhere where I can help people in relative peace.

Ya I guess since I have never been to war, I do not have the same insight as somebody that has. I totally understand and respect where combat veterans would never want to go back based on some of the stories I have heard from guys in my unit. I guess I am being a little too HOOah for my own good.

No, its understandable. I was the same way, and I would go back in a heartbeat if it was required of me. But i wouldnt ask for it.
