21B's are really a jack of all trades. I have seen 21B's used as infantry, perform raids, clear minefields, route clearance, find/destroy IED's.
The engineer mission is generally to create or destroy obstacles to affect mobility(ours and theirs). When there are no engineering tasks we act as infantry.

True, most anybody can run a shovel, drive a truck, and lift heavy things.
Not everyone is trained in demolitions, construction, heavy equipment and is expected to directly engage the enemy.

OP, I think the point here is that when you are deployed you could end up doing almost anything. As an Engineer you could be doing IED sweeps, guarding the FOB from a tower, shuffling paperwork at the TOC, manning the sign in table for the MWR internet cafe, checking IDs at the chow hall. You just never know. In a war you will do what needs to be done. And the sad part is that most of the time what you end up doing isnt up to you in the least.
