I am currently a contracted ROTC Cadet facing possible dismissal for a self defense case/bar fight. I am being charged with a misdemeanor and nothing has been set in stone at all. If I do get dismissed from ROTC I will go back to my Reserve unit/status. The worst I face on the civilian side is a year probation. I was told that I could not transfer to the Guard until the probation was over and done with but I was wondering if there was a waiver for that.

It is important that I switch to the NG because I will receive $10,000 or so in education benefits compared to $4,500 if I were in the reserve and this is a huge difference because I am paying out of state tuition currently and if I lose my scholarship I will not be able to afford to go here any longer.

This is what I would need to do providing I do end up getting dismissed from ROTC, I have not been yet, I am not convicted and I am not currently even being placed on leave of absence but it has been brought up.
